Get the 80 gig or if you can find one a 60gig US version. 60 gig is hardware backwards capable, the 80 gig is software emulation backwards capable. Both will upscale your ps2 games to HD quality which is nice especially if you get a hdtv in the future. You don't need one but it's nice to have the hd out of the box for the future.

Psp is a good companion with the ps3. You can be at a friends house and decide you want to show your friend a cool video you have stored on your ps3 so you take your psp and connect to your ps3 via the internet an stream the video right to your psp for your friend to watch. Remote play also allows you to access any other media on your ps3 and that is hooked up to your ps3 (external harddrive) even when you are miles away.

well in a way u could sell all ur psp and ps2 games and the systems if u want to get more then enough money if u have the games acesories but well i would get a 80 gig but really who will finish it? it is a $125 waist. i would get a simple 40 gb thats the only diference with the ps3's the gig's i mean if u have a band or like music/video i would get 80 gig but i cant really imagine it being full lol so my think is 40 gig save ur self $125+ and if u like music/videos then get 80 gig. i wish there was a 60 gig american to hard to find they would be perfect lol so anyways thow it is really up to u:)

I am trying to make the same decision myself. But, after doing research, the 80g is way better than the 40g. Right now the only difference is $100. So if u sell ur ps2 to gamestop u can get $70 towards ur 80g ps3. Then it is only a $30 difference, which isn't bad.

This question is an often one, so that's my cut & paste answer:
1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.
2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim.
3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.
4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black and white colors. White is on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption). Improved cooling system.
5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played.
