I have drilled in the ARNG for 6 years. As an officer I have an 8 year obligation. I owe no time for bonuses or such. I want to transfer to the IRR for my final 2 years and my unit said they will fight it. There is currently no "stop loss" in place. What can I do to ensure transfer to the IRR?

Is there any chance that your Unit may be deploying in the next 2 years? As an officer you should have some clue. It is obvious that the Unit considers you as being needed for some reason.

But with a 2 year obligation and the Unit not wanting to release you, I doubt there is any guarantee that you will get your request.

Here is how to ensure your successful transfer to the IRR. Complete your finial two years that you gave your word to do. Stop whining and just keep your word. This was something that you volunteered for, there is no draft. If you absolutely can't take the terrible conditions the officers have then go tell the JAG you wish to desert your unit, mission, and country and will accept the Dis-Honorable Discharge.

You can only plead your case. Your IRR transfer can be denied. The same thing happened to my commander. It's a price we pay for being officers.
