I tend to agree with you but no matter what action you take the offenders will take no notice. Being eco friendly is only an option when they are not effected. Furthermore I would bet that only one in ten of your neighbours are real Christians. Most celebrate Christmas because it is a habit and have no idea or do not even care that it is a religious festival celebrating the birth of Jesus.
The Christmas light thing outside the house is a form of showing off and some peoples lives are so boring that they try to impress others in this way.
You do have a happy and blessed Christmas.

Ms Sensible --
They probably won't listen. That's the horrifying truth. I know for a fact that christmas decorations are bad for the environment - but think about your computer electricity right now. That's bad for the environment too.

Sending notes through a few people's doors wont make a difference. There's billions of people got christmas decorations up.. 50 people won't change the way the world feels

No of course not.
It's only for a week or two each year.
You mustn't spoil other people's pleasure - you are obviously in the minority - so you're just going to have to accept it.
Get some cheer - Maybe you should ask yourself why you're not a happy person at the moment instead of wingeing......?

No, I wouldn't tell them. There are much bigger problems in the world for the environment than some Christmas lights for a few weeks out of the year.

I'd stay away from that issue, with your neighbors, if I were you.. you'll get a reputation as a crazy person....it's only for a few weeks of the year... and makes folks happy...

If you don't like it... buy the folks energy efficient LED Christmas decorations, and be nice about it...

I save money and power too by enjoying other ppls lights but do the traditional no power decs at home. I'm not sure how that helps starving people in the world or saves the planet and seeing as geological processes make up 95% of global warming, 5% is manmade and the planet is coming out of a mini ice age, there's rally not that much we can do to stop it.
co2 doesn't cause global warming, global warming causes co2

I'd do it anonymously if I were you. I doubt anyone will take notice though. Maybe you could make a difference if you campaigned to your local council. It might also be useful to suggest environmentally friendly alternatives.

To the people saying not to spoil Christmas for the people. Would you be happy if the environment were irreparably damaged, but everyone had a good Christmas?

Yeah, why don't you go knock on your neighbors doors and tell them how bad they are for celebrating Christmas, just make sure you have enough money to bail your self out on Monday morning.

You've got the whole year to live through afterwards, do you really want to ensure the wrath of your neighbours for ever after.

i agree with you but do you really want to spoil your friendship with your neighbours and make everyone in your street hate you just for a couple of decorations?
