A lot of times, there are perfectly good tables "everywhere" else. Normally these are not restaurants that take reservations. So if I get seated at a table in the back, yet still pass up all the other tables throughout the restaurant that are the same seating arrangement, what is the REAL story?

The job of host or hostess is to scatter customers so one server doesn't get all the newcomers at the same time. In a well-run restaurant, each server has some good tables, some bad. If the managers aren't smart, one server has only bad tables. So you might be the victim of unfortunate planning.
Some restaurants don't want to "waste" a prime table on a solo diner. And some want only good-looking people at the visible tables.
In all cases, the solution is the same. If they take you past good tables to seat you at a bad one, politely say "I'd rather not sit here. Could I have a table closer to the front/further from the restroom?" Then take it from there. If it ends up with the manager telling you to sit behind the door or take your business elsewhere, you know what to do.

I think it may have something to do with the capacity of the restaurant. They probably seat from back to front until full then start random seating. If you dont want to sit in the back, say something-after all, your paying to eat there. Next time it happens, ask them why they are seating you there.

I don't know, but you don't have to sit where they want you to. If you see a table you would like to sit at, tell whoever is seating you and, if the table is not already reserved, you should be able to sit there.

You may not be dressed well enough. But you can object. I always get seated in these bad positions when I show up with 4 children, and I'm grateful:)

Maybe you should ask the person seating you.

It might be that the hostess/host has a quota to fill. One party in this waitress' section, one party in that one.

If you don't like where you are being seated , simply say so.

no idea
try confronting the next seater person if it happens more than once in the same restaurant
