What do fabulous, independent, and over 40 women call the men they are in a committed relationship with? We discussed this at lunch and couldn't come up with a term we liked. "Boyfriend" sounds so high school, we're well past "booty call" and "boy toy", and "my man" is...well, it just doesn't work. Ironically, when a man this age calls a woman his girlfriend, it sounds fine. One of my friends has even started calling him her husband just to keep it simple (although she doesn't do it around him because then he'll start pestering her again to marry him). Any suggestions?

Cake and eat it to? If you don't want to get married and you don't want to use the term boy friend then get out. If you want to have a good giving relationship then you have to give up and not worry about trivial nonsense. It can not be a one way for either part if it is then get out. There is some one for every one. If you go to buy a car and the dealer will not meet you to an agreeable price then what do you do? Go to another place. I hate to say it but relationships are the same way. If it is not right from the beginning then you have to go to another before you start. I am not telling you to leave. I am just saying don't let something so meaningless ruin a good thing if that is what you have.

Good luck, I am also 40 and in a relationship, he will call me his 'lover' (I don't care for that one. I have used these terms, Why don't you try out 'significant other' or 'partner', there is also mate, my better half or other half.

How fabulous and independent are you if you cant even decide what to call your partner. Sheesh, act your age.

I assume he has a name? Maybe try that!

Partner - and you don't have to be in your 40s to call him/her that - I often refer to my "partner" - my partner of so many years - it sounds better than boyfriend, it's true and it's the role that he fulfills after all!

How about something that is not gender specific but shows a relationship, a partner.

well to be honest with you in gods eyes there is no boy friend or girl friend its either your fiance or nothing, anytime you get involved with a person you have to look at them as god would .many times people start kissing on the person etc ,make sure before you show that person any kind of affection make sure you got gods approval and that you plan on getting married to them if not leave them alone and do what god told you to do....to the ladies tell that man go give you a ring or something dont have sex with him till and after he marrys you because he will wind up sending you to hell all because of a few minutes of pleasure its not worth it trust me i been there and done that thats why i am looking for a mate now
