it's never a good idea to make a wild animal a pet.

ZOO's have extreame difficulty getting a giant panda. If china is selling "many" compared to the past that means they probably are letting half a dozen go...with much work arranging with the host countries goverment.
Now the RED panda (which looks like a racoon) is much more common. Ther might be more of them advaliable but probaly NOT to a priovate person. Besides by all accounts I've heard they (both species) are nasty and have hospitlized zoo keepers....

Are you talking about a Panda Bear? They are a endangered animal and China would not give your average Joe one, that is for sure. Governments of other countries have to go though a great deal to just get one to breed. It is a open and shut case, there is to few and to difficult to get. Move on because there is no Panda in your future.

do not buy one. that is horrible and Pandas are not pets. they belong in the wild. go to roots and shoots, jgi, wwf, and any other environmental site.
wild animals, een if they are recently domesticated ( which means they were captured by poachers from their mothers, when the moms were shot) are still not domestic. they belong in the wild where they would be happy. humans and pandas are not supposed to cooexist in a household together.
please, please research the impact this would have on the ever decreasing panda population. wild animals like pandas, tigers, panthers, etc. are not good pets.
many studies have shown that this is the reason for most of the animals being put on the endangered list.

If you are referring to the poodle/maltese cross that they DYE to look like a panda it's a waste of money. If you mean an actual panda you cannot own one in the US. Pandas are an endangered species which means that you go to jail for killing or keeping one.

I'm not sure that it's even legal to own a panda without a permit. Besides, they grow to be very large and are difficult to care for. Maybe they meant stuffed pandas or something

Well, other than the fact that it is illegal to own an endangered species as a pet, what else do you want to know?
