I'm making an egg bake for company this morning and it calls for sage. I just realized I'm all out and can't make it to the store to get some. Is there a comparable alternative? It only asks for 1/2 teaspoon. I don't want anything crazy or spicy - just something simple that might compare. Any suggestions please??

It depends what you are making. Each herb has a distinctive flavour. If you don't have sage you could try substituting with thyme and savory. Or try rosemary or poultry seasoning. Remember....a little goes a long way! Probably a good idea to use 1/4 teaspoon of a substitute.

Or how about knocking on your neighbor's door and asking to borrow some sage???

Personally, I don't think that anything else really tastes like sage, but if you have tarragon, a bit of that will work really nicely with eggs! Otherwise, just add some parsley for a bit of color and flavor!
