Well....the cheapest way to do it would be to buy a ten gallon aquarium with a lid (about 15$ plus 15$-ish). There are a lot of cages on the market, so you'll just have to go around and price them. You need bedding (5$), a food dish ($3), and a water bottle (5-10$ depending). You'll need some sort of hiding place for him (5-10$) and a wheel (5-10$...you can do without if you need to). You'll need hamster food (5$ - this is a bimonthly cost, remember).....and the hamster (3-15$ depending).

Some hamsters are 99 cents at petland discounts. The cage is expensive. The water bottle can range from 5 dollars to 10 dollars.

hamsters are only a couple of dollars. you could get a second hand aquarium and lid. a water bottle is a dollar or two and you don't really need a food dish. they can live on people food, like cereal or bread or vegetable and fruit peelings. how much you spend depends on where you shop and what you decide to buy.
