The idea of eternal tea parties with Mother Theresa does not motivate for your heaven dear, I much prefer the heaven of the Flying Spaghetti Monster with beer volcanoes and strippers factories...

I am not interested in heavenly life. Earth is where I belong if anywhere. I have enough curiosity I have suppressed for too long. It needs a chance to get out. A few thousand years will be a good start.
I look at other answers here and must laugh. They seem to close their eyes until someone tells them it is safe to read again. The fact that after establishing that number 3 times to be a real number, it points out these are on or beside the throne. Their purpose is found in Acts 22:28-30. To sit on thrones to judge faithful humans. Not just Jews, as the 12 tribes are not the same as the 12 tribes of Israel. Rather it means all faithful ones, Jehovah's people from all nations.
Those of the great crowd correctly are quoted by one answer as being "standing before" the throne. That is the group I want into. Those are the ones who live on the earth, both living through the great tribulation and resurrected ones. This is the open number group.
Think of it. You have people being added each day as they come to see world conditions and want to truly serve the Creator not just with half way lip service. Then you have all those who have died-- both faithful and those who never had a chance to choose to be faithful. they must be given a chance to choose whom they will serve. That is quite a bunch of people.

Only 144,000 going to Heaven is a doctrine of the watchtowerites (JW's) that is not supported Biblically. A man can count 144,000 people. The verses below say a crown no man can number will be before the thrown. If you want to learn about the Bible you do not want the JW's to teach you.
Revelation 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
Rev 7:10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

The Bible never says that. If you look a few verses down (I'll post the reference later, but it's in Revelation) it's said that the rest of the Christians were innumerable.
The 144000 were just a special classification.

Most Jehovah's Witnesses I know do not believe they will be part of the 144,000 in heaven, but rather they will live forever in eternal bliss in an earthly paradise when Jesus establishes His kingdom here.

I can't help it if I'm an A lister in Heaven. Too bad and so sad for those other ones who aren't. I'm sure there's plenty of room down below.

You've got a point.
That's quite a small, small number.
Is your name among those 144,000?
What happens if one's name is number 144,001?
