hmm, what do you mean by 'terrible'?
In my experience, steamers don't help all that much.

If this is an acne, it can often be treated by using 5% benzoyl peroxide 2 x a day. If it is a BAD acne, with lots of bumps full of pus, or worse, thick nodules on your face or chest, see a doctor. Most primary care doctors can manage all but the worst cases.

Whatever you do, do not get overly rigid about multiple daily face washings and acne meds unless prescribed. Many people make things worse by overcleaning.

If it is other than an acne, see your doctor. If he/she can mange it, they will, if not, ask for a referral to a dermatologist.

Please note that ANY acne regimen needs to be tried faithfully for 8 to 12 weeks before you can see max results.

Hi,

I used to have the same problem and was very self conscious about the way I looked. Steamers don't work, they only make the face redder. Best solution is to keep your skin clean, don't use products that will aggrevate the problem. Use witch hazel to dry out spots.

Examine your diet - could this be affecting your skin. Drink lots of water, eat a balanced diet with fresh fruit, vegetables. Cut out the junk food and fizzy drinks.

The problem won't go away overnight but it will start to improve over time. Make a decision to deal with it. If your still bothered about your skin appearance, consult a dermatologist who should be able to give you some good advice. You are not alone. Don't let it stop you enjoying life, fresh air is also good for the skin! Hope this helps. :)

Go to a dermatologist. GP's are useless for problems like acne which should be dealt with by a specialist. There are so many many types of treatment if you'd never had professional acne treatment before. They will first try topical creams/lotions/ointments, then cream antibiotics, then comes orally administered anti biotics, then they sometimes give you the pill "Dianette" and then Roaccutane which works on almost everyone but is very strong so is a last resort.
Basically what I want to say is, don't worry it can be helped, but you must go to a dermatologist first.
