See the thing is atheists (not all, but all that I've known) are good and kind because it is healthy to be good and kind.
They care for people because it's the right thing to do, not because some imaginary sky-daddy will punish them if they don't.
Which is more honest and moral?

I hope you're kidding.
No, atheists don't love abortions. No one does. I just think that women should have the right to make that decision for themselves.
And even if there is no reward after this life, there is more to life than material comfort. I won't say I've never lied but I don't like lying because it damages others trust in me and my self-respect. I've never cheated in my life. I've tried but have never had the stomach to go through with it. And excepting mosquito's, spiders and the occasional wasp I've never killed anything.
We only get one shot at life, that is true. But that doesn't mean we should lead a nasty, cutthroat existence. It's just the opposite. We have one shot to do our lives right with no one to forgive our wrongs other than the people we wronged and ourselves.
I do care about other people, including my family and friends. In particular, I think it would be pretty hard not to care about the kids I work with at their school.

I'm an atheist and I care about everyone to one degree or another, but to care isn't enough. Most atheists see that people have a right to decide for themselves. That can often have the appearance of not caring, but to the opposite degree theists who want to decide for everyone can have the appearance of caring for others. Which would you rather have?
The fact that there is a disproportionately smaller percentage of atheists in prisons than in the community at large even when there is the same percentage of theists in prisons as there is the community at large shows that being atheist can make you MORE moral than their theistic counterparts.
Many theists don't lie, cheat, steal, and kill only because they are threatened with hell, but when an atheist who doesn't believe in an afterlife consciously makes the choice not to do those things it has a much greater meaning. Atheists don't have to be threatened to behave themselves.

Are you effing serious? Wow, you are the most ignorant person I've seen on here. I care about and respect everyone who deserves it. Just because I don't think that some GOD is pulling the strings on my life doesn't mean I don't live my life to the full. Sorry i you want to waste your few years worshipping something you can't see, but some people have better things to do. I have never committed a crime, and last time I checked, none of us ATHEISTS have started any wars because someone is DIFFERENT from us.
And I do not LOVE abortion. I hate it, I wish no one ever had to do it, but that doesn't mean I'm against it.

you are incredibly stupid if you think that,
just because you worship a god does not mean you are better than any one else, if it only god stopping you lie, cheat, steal and kill then you are the bad person.
i care about a lot of people, i am a volunteer at a hospital and a lot of the nurses and doctors there do not believe in god, and they save lives every day.
on here one person said why would atheist's care about unborn babies, we care as much as anyone else, why wouldn't we having no god does not make us uncaring,
i am not dangerous or cold hearted, i try not to lie, though EVERYONE does at one point in there lives, i do not cheat, i have never stole, and i would never kill, unless i really had to
{unless my family, friends or innocent people where getting really hurt or killed my people}.
we follow the law and have a have a brain and was brought up by our parents to be a good citizen, and if anything atheist's may be better people as we don't do these things because they are wrong not because of a religion, and because we are human like everyone else not evil

What makes people think that a belief in God makes them a better person? Many Christians I know are mean in the extreme and show little or no charity to those who are less fortunate than themselves. If anything many so called Christians are lacking in fundamental decency as they are self absorbed in their holier than thou attitudes.
A persons "caring" for others is not motvated by religious beliefs but by a far higher calling, it's called "decency" or "humanity" and it knows no bounds. Compassion and caring are not the province of any religion or belief system, they are universal attributes and are found right across the world in all sorts of different people.
When you grow up you may realise that what I say is the truth.
I'd love to know what you have done for your fellow humans, probably not as much as many non believers I'll bet.

Of course we do, we care about the society we live in. I care about my neighbors, some of whom I know and some I don't but if any one of them needed help I'd be more than happy to give it. I also coach youth sports and I have various charities I am involved in. Just because we do not have a religion telling us to be "charitable" doesn't mean we aren't. I can't speak for all others, but I do it because helping your fellow human being is just the right thing to do.
This life is the only one we have and if you have lived it well then there will be no regrets. I give of myself in many various aspects and I do not lie, cheat, steal or kill because I know that is wrong to do to a fellow human being. One wishes to be treated well and to do that you do not do what isn't socially acceptable. I treat my fellow human beings with dignity and respect and I hope to get that in return.

my friend is an atheist and constantly starts up programs to make the city better and help people out. i plan on being a professor and at some point creating political change to make the world better. i help people who ask.
if christians only need to ask to be forgiven to get to their heaven no matter what they do doesn't that mean they could do the same?
i'm not self involved. why don't you go out and meet atheists and see what kind of people they are.
atheist
edit: you bleeding idiot we don't love abortions. i wish humans wouldn't do it but i know they won't stop and illegalizing it will only create more problems. people need to be taught on the subject not just told "don't do it"

It's far too late for drinking, so I'll take a *drink* of water.
Atheists and agnostics can be and are fully moral people, even without your god. We don't need somebody to tell us what is right, we can figure it out for ourselves. It starts with what is called the Golden Rule (Do unto others as you would have done unto you), which existed LONG BEFORE Christianity.
Come on. Try something new. Did you really think that nobody had brought this canard up before?

Wow. Are you telling us that you yourself would most likely be an evil cheating stealing murderer were it not for your religion, as that is the only thing that allows you to care about anyone but yourself? Wow.
