I have Christian friends, both online and in real life of course. We mostly never discuss religion and we concentrate on doing things together and being there for each other.

I would never let beliefs or lack of any come between my friends and me.

But just because *my* friends are tolerant, open-minded and cool people, doesn't mean that all Christians are. Same goes for atheists, you know.

Some of you should try to differentiate between Christian and Fanatic. By your own words, you sound more fanatical than most Christians that I know. When you meet someone, is their religious belief foremost in your mind? I dont understand why so many atheists are so fixated on something that they DO NOT BELIEVE IN. If someone is a religious fanatic, I could understand an atheist distancing themself. I can also understand most Christians distancing themself from the same person. I would think that an atheist would be more open to accepting people on their human value, than a religious zealot who can at least be thinking "oh..they are not in my cliche". But it seems many atheists are just as bad, if not worse.

Give people the benefit of the doubt. Friends are friends through mutual respect. I personally do not care about someones beliefs, in politics, religion, or anything else. If they offend me, I wont hang around. If we can get along, we can be friends.

Christan bashing is just one more way for close-minded individuals to put down a group who is different (just like racism, or gay bashing), in order to validate themselves (in their own mind).

I am still trying to understand why an atheist would post a question in Religion and Spirituality, when atheism is neither a religion, nor is it spiritual.

I have gone thru stages in my life of being Christian and atheist. It's normal to try on different views. I have held the same opinions about Christians during my atheist period too as noted in above answers. But the 'proof is in the pudding'. Christianity is a Blessing and really works - for those who are looking for something that works. I went for a period of 20 years as a non-christian thinking Christians were just sooo lame, and hypocritical, but now i realize that I was heartless and self centered. Christianity is an Fantastic Experience.

Most my friends are atheist as well. But the few Christian ones I have are friends, so I feel about them the way I would any FRIEND.

"Friends" is probably the keyword here. I don't have many, granted - but that's because I like having intelligent discussions on the presence/absence of a greater power without the other party blowing up on me. Most of my friends (as far as I know; I don't go around interrogating people on it) are freethinkers, which is to say that they don't particularly care if there's a God or not, so they're considerably easier to get along with. I try not to bring up religion anyway, other than with my closer friends.

Very few of my friends are Christian, because, frankly, I tend to be friends with people who are intelligent enough to escape that kind of thinking. But the few of my friends who are Christian, are still my good friends, for the same reasons that I am friends with my other friends. We just never talk religion, which works out fine, since the only time I think about or care about religion is when I'm answering questions here.

They are "friends"! Every one has the right to think what he or she wants. I believe what I believe because that was what I was brought up to believe and there has be nothing that has changed my mind as far as evidence or convincing. I might be wrong but I am going to take a chance that I am not. I think that the most important thing,no matter what your religious beliefs are, is that you are a good person because no matter who is right that is what really counts.I do believe that for everything one does there are consequences. I believe that for wrong doings ,so to say, you have to pay the piper because he is coming.

I have a lot of family and friends who are Christians and they keep telling me that I got the Bible all wrong! but they have no way to explain all the discrepacies and absurdities in the Bible other than letting God do it so I can understand... They poach selected verses from the Bible that are easily knocked down by examples taken from the same Bible! Nothing beats objective Bible knowledge!!!

Well if they're their friends then they obviously like them! My best friend is very christian and while I don't agree with her beliefs I have a great deal of love and respect for her.
People who let religion completely take them over and rule their lives are really missing out I think.
