You shouldn't have long hair because it looks, frankly, stupid on men. But I doubt it consigns you to Hell. I mean honestly, can you truly worship a god who cares about your hair style, or whether you've shaved recently? Shouldn't it be more important that you're a good person or not?

Some people may quote you 1 Corinthians 11:14-15:
"Does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him; but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her?"
Of course, the big question is:
What's the definition of 'long'?
A more important determining factor is found at 1 Timothy 2:10. Christians are told to conduct themselves
"in the way that befits professing to reverence God."
Let's throw in 2 Corinthians 6:3 "In no way are we giving any cause for stumbling."
So, if the length of your hair is becoming a cause of talk, stumbling some and causing onlookers to wonder if your religion is serious ....then, even if you are not obliged, you still may choose to shorten it a bit.

The first likeness of Jesus was one that had bobbed hair about mid ear. This was made almost 200 years after His death. As time went on farther from the time He lived, the hair became pictured as longer and longer until it is where it finally reached in the 18th century paintings. Earlier paintings did not have the long hair for Jesus.

1Co 11:14 "Isn’t it obvious that it’s disgraceful for a man to have long hair?" 15 "And isn’t long hair a woman’s pride and joy? For it has been given to her as a covering." 16 "But if anyone wants to argue about this, I simply say that we have no other custom than this, and neither do God’s other churches" --- So Paul said there is no other custom than short hair for men among God's churches.

Forbidden? In New Testament times, long hair was considered disgraceful by jewish men as well as those in 1st century Corinth. The portraits rendering Christ with long hair are based in Middle age imagination, not biblical accounts. A fact that can be seen in thousands of paintings ans sculptures of the day.
There is something called the Nazarite Vow, where a man did not ever cut his hair, or eat grapes- or take wine. This had to do with his covenant with God. Samson, John the Baptist, took that vow.
In the New Testament, the Bible speaks of the covering of a woman's head in prayer; saying that a woman should have long hair, which is a glory to her. It says also that nature teaches that if a man has long hair, it is a shame to him.
Verses 13-15

Judge in yourselves, is it comely for a woman that a woman pray unto God uncovered.? Does not even nature itself teach that if a man have long hair it is a shame to him,? But, if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given for a covering.

Reading the entire chapter makes it clear that the head you shame by having the long hair as a man- or having short hair, as a woman; is the head of the Body of Christ; which is Christ, Himself- verse 4
This does not conflict with biblical history, but with the artists

No, whether or not Jesus had long hair is unknown to us. As for long hair, wouldn't you be offended if someone mistook you for a woman? Samson was a Nazarene, and thus had a shame upon his head for the sake of God as did all Nazarenes, but with Christ that shame is lifted. I also recall a son of David in the Bible being hung by his own long hair by getting it caught in a tree when passing under it on a horse.

It's actually of the Jewish nature to not have long hair as in the way a woman wears her hair. It's perfectly fine to take the Nazarene Vow (no wine, no grapes, no cutting of the hair) since you will end up just looking like an old bearded man. But traditionally Jewish men keep their hair cut short (but not shaved) Apostle Paul talked about men wearing long hair but most Christian doctrines have dismissed it. I (being a Messianic Jew - a jew who believes in jesus) believe it is sinful to wear long hair to attempt to look like a woman (when really you are a man) . But that's just my belief , it's up to you to read and decide for yourself. Don't let anyone else tell you how to wear your hair. *Edit* A site that shares my belief but it's still up to you to decide weather it's true or not.

Well, that fellow on the crucifix doesn't exactly have a crew-cut, now does he?

Then again, that particular depiction of Jesus isn't universal and is based purely on artist interpretations. And 1 Corinthians 11:14 says long hair on a man is a no-no. I'm not a Christian, so I'll leave this dilemma up to you.

That's from some people blowing I Corinthians 11:14 out of proportion, but in 1 Corinthians 7:6, Paul said that many of the advice hereon out is his personal opinion and shouldn't be taken as strict Biblical cannon.

Christians depict Jesus as a man with long hair, but hair wasn't cut often back then. Having long hair is not a sin.

I have a friend who is very Christian and also a Comanchee and has waist lenght hair. It is fine. Hair length is more an expression of culture than religion. Express yourself.
