Okay, my girlfriend is really bothering me and then these things people keep saying "Go back to the Start! do not pass GO and do not go to Jail." because I want to do infantry/sniper...
I'm planning on picking infantry, training with sniper rifles, going airborne, air assault, and maybe special forces if I could...
But everyone doesn't want me to, and I don't wanna be stuck behind repairing tanks or watching stupid prisoners, I want to be where the action is, so like what the hell do I do now?
Should I pick another stupid job I'll hate?
If so what would you recommend?

You have all the right in the world to listen to what everyone that means something to you about what everyone THINKS! Why would you do that, you have already decided to do something no one in this great nation will do.......serve their country first of all.......and to do it in a manner that could cost your life..........okay, what ever. Anyway, what I am trying to get at is you are joining to serve your country........THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
Did you realize that most of the people that walk into our office do not know what they are doing for the rest of their lives? As far as careers I mean.
To be able to defend YOUR country FOR everyone else is a big responsibility I do not care what anyone says about it.

Go with the Infantry option now!
If you don't like it, you can change MOSs when you reenlist. You have more reenlistment options for your first reenlistment than any other time in your career, and you'll actually know enough about the Army to make an informed decision at that time.
Get the Hooah, Infantry stuff out of your system now, while you're new to the Army and young. You'll always regret it if you don't go with your pick choice. Once you're in a Combat Support or Combat Service Support Branch, it's harder to get released to go into a Combat Arms Branch because the training for CS and CSS jobs costs the Army a lot more!
Go do 3 or 4 years being all your can be, earn a badge or two, then if you don't want to be an Infantryman anymore, reenlist to be Signal, or MI, or another useful MOS with less danger.

thanx cal the tree hugging hippy for your response. now go save some owls or burn up a garage filled with hummer's.
well all that stuff is great but it's not for everyone. those guys lead a hard life. I had a friend who wanted to do that stuff, he's now getting a divorce after 13 years while on his 6th deployment to iraq\afghanastan.
i always tell people to try and pick something that will benfit you in the end. the recruiters will sell up every job and how it will help you when you get out, but trust me, there aren't many good jobs for heavy equipment operators (tanker) out there.
Try and find something that interests you that you will be able to take to the outside when you leave the army. you never know when you're going to leave. i was ready to leave when i got 1/2 way thru basic, then again after my 4 years, then again after 2 more years. I finally did leave active duty after 12 years only to take a job as a Department of the Army civlian. I am still a reserve soldier. I have no college degree or IT certifications but I make a pretty good living as a DA civilian IT guy. I would have never of been able to get a job making what i make if i was infantry or artillery.
so take what is important to you, listen to people who have some good experience in life, put it all together and choose something that best fits that.

The first thing you absolutely MUST understand is that young men who make it in to special forces start out in the infantry and put in their time standing guard, guarding prisoners, and swabbing decks. They APPLY for special forces training, and their ticket into that opportunity is all about their performance on the job, their level of motivation, their leadership abilities, and their determination to get the job done, no matter how menial the job might seem.
The recruiter's not going to jump up and down when you walk in his office and yell, "Oh, I'm so glad you're HERE! We've been waiting for you!! I've got your path cleared for Army Delta and we can't wait until you take your place at the top!!" Our special forces are exactly that.. SPECIAL..
Obviously, I agree with other posters who've expressed concern that you are not confident in your choice to the degree that the opinions of others won't deter you from your goal.

Son! I am concerned with your indecisive attitude, it tells me that you are not yet fully matured and have no real grasp of what military service really is! I think you are a long way from being special forces material, and I base that on your inept way of entering the military. You will be assessed on your mental approach to a problem, and your leadership skills in solving it under intense physical and mental stress! So your attitude must be focused on the immediate problems facing you! Think you can handle it? Have a great day.

Become a bio/chem officer and Ordnance officer. You must get yourself assigned to Ft. Detrick, MD. They are working on the over the top classes of weapons. Make sure you have a clause in your enlistment contract that stipulates that you will not be assigned to a bio weapons unit overseas. It must be specific that you will only be assigned to Ft. Detrick, MD. You'll find all the action you want and then some!

specific. shall we face it, whilst even finance is rolling around in hmmuv's then all people can, they bypass base to base around the western windfall selecting up $ from the PX and giving uncomplicated pay to squaddies as quickly as each 3 or 4 weeks. additionally the army can replace your interest. i replaced into interior the artillery, yet in Iraq i replaced into doing convoy risk-free practices up and down the roads in Iraq, and that's an MP's interest.

darrel m has it right. Never let others pick your path in life for you. Whether it is your job in the Army or your job in civillian life. If you follow their advise and end up hating your job you will end up resenting them for telling you to do something you dont like. Make your own decisions and you will have no one to blame and no one to thank but yourself.
When I decided to join the Army family and friends tried to talk me out of it but I did what I wanted to do and have enjoyed the challenge and adventure of a military life.

Well, I used to work on F-16s nas Crewchief in the AF. I loved it; maybe you can work on black hawks, fly the bird around sometimes. Or do what I am doing, goto college be an officer and fly full time :). There is no rush to hurry up and wait... Take your time on this one.

Only you know what is best for you. If you do decide to join the military then that is your choice alone, and no one else. You may find that you don't like it, then again, you may love it. Either way there is only one way to find out. Also, if your family and friends respect you, then they will respect your decision.
