For image editing or just organizing photos??? Windows, OS X or Linux???
PhotoFiltre 6, ArtRage 2, Gimp, Gimpshop, Paint.net, Picasa, IrfanView and XnView, all free and all very good. Google for them.

It depends on what you want to do with your photos, but I advise you to start with a real simple and free program. It is called IrfanView and can be downloaded from here http://www.irfanview.com/
Take the plugin package too.
Read the Helpsection for guidance.

Adobe very costly yet outstanding. i take advantage of Corel's PhotoPaint professional X2 and it fairly works in simple terms as great. Little tutoring and you'd be advantageous. there's a era yet i've got no longer improve yet to the X3 version.
