Since it's the holiday season, red and gold decor are plentiful. Consider using the beaded garland or crystals. You could place several flameless candles on the table and garnish them with the beads and crystals. Another idea is ribbon bows. Do a broad search for pictures of wedding centerpieces. I didn't want flowers either, but I got 'em.
Congratulations!

battery operated candles can be a major fire hazzard. just warning you.
suggestion: Small water globes, like from hobby lobby, with some scented drops in it, and a few floating flowers or two open roses buds floating in each, surrounded by garlands or ivy tied with gold ribbons flowing out into the table...you can use multiple types of flowers or even silk flowers and give them away as gifts. You could have flowers "pouring" out of the bowls as well. You can also decorate the bowls with gold and red paint pens and that new etching stuff, make them ornate works of art with your names on them, so they become keepsakes for your guests.
I did this and spent maybe 75 dollars on 15 table centerpieces and they were so unique everyone went gaga over them.

You said you decided against florals because of cost, but some silk petals and a glue gun doesn't cost alot, and you could make these rose candles and use the battery candlles inside. My wife is making them now for best friends' sister wedding - they look nice to me! They didn't buy silk flowers and cut them apart as in directions, they just bought loose petals in bags. Buy the petals in whatever colors ya want.

You can put a pretty ribbon around the candle to make it match your color scheme. if they're different sizes, you can stagger the sizes, to make it more decorative. You could also get mirrors and set them on it..... you could put rose petals around them & on the table too.
p.s. if you want flowers here is a what I did (because my budget wasn't huge) I wanted flowers and candles, I ended up talking to the lady at albertson's grocery store in their floral department, they ordered me roses for $7 a dozen! So that was an awesome price.

Depending on the time of year for the wedding
.... if it's now make use of christmas balls in a bowl .... shiny and the reflection of light will add a little sparkle.
look for ideas that fit the time of year .... Fall - craft stores have fake fall leaves and pine cones
Walking around craft stores can usually give you some ideas of what to put into containers rather than worrying about expensive flowers ...
good luck and congrats!

How bout helium balloons for the centre of the tables? You can go as big or small as you like and you can go as high or low as you like and they wont obstruct the ppl at the table talking. Plus at the end of the night it gives the kids some thing to take home, unless the grown ups get there first and start making squeaky voices with them!!

just an idea,
my friend is having her wedding gifts for guests as a small potted violet.
If it suited you could buy each guest a small pot and flower/plant/seedling that matches your colour scheme, incorporate that with candles for your table decorations, kill 2 birds with one stone.
Places like ebay have sites where you can order personalised ribbon, eg john and jane thankyou for celebrating etc to decorate the pots or put tags on them.
Good luck

what I am doing and no fire needed ,
all you will need is tissue paper in the color of your wedding adn some platic boxes adn mini LED flashlights you can get all this at the dollar store
wrap the box in tissue , turn on the flashlight and place something on top here is what we are doing
our total cost for table is 5 dollars not a bad for a dollar store table ..
