Juts wondering my father died but he was a peaceful quiet man until i was 11, everyday he screamed on the top of his lungs at me, my sis, my Mom, using curse words unconrtrollably.. it got so bad my mom changed the locks on him.. i didnt see him for 4 years after that when he had a heart attack, after that he wasnt the same, old and seemed sedated..
my Mom says the doctors didnt know why he screamed like that.. He did have cancer previously that went into remission, she thinks the cancer meds may have affected his brain but she never got a real answer.
I still have no clue what happened, it really had a horrible impact on my child.
Anyone know what type of menital illness it could be?

It could very well have been brain damage. Who really knows if the cancer didn't return? It could have been affecting his emotional functions either from previous damage, or it might have recurred. Diagnostic methods were not as sophisticated back then.

But it could also have been mental illness, perhaps schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Psychotic episodes can occur in either.

Must have been a horrible experience.

I think your Mom is right. Medication, illness or perhaps a cerebral bleed (stroke) can certainly cause a change in personality.

You will probably never know for sure. Forgive him for being who he was at the end and forgive yourself for not knowing.
It will make your life more peaceful.

God Bless you and yours for these holidays.

It could be a severe case of Tuerrettes syndrome.
