Growing on me alot, iam not a fan of newer shaped cars and love the hard old looks on older cars. But this shape is growing on me and i believe it was the sound of the engine, which was the deciding factor.
Change to any popular model takes a while to get used to, I hated the R33 look when that came out as iam a big fan of the R32,but i have and had both and love both shapes now.
I was talking to different folks at Nissan and all told me Nissan wanted a Skyline model for the world which could carry on the hardcore of the GTR's against the V35 GT350 style.
But after much deciding and feedback from other countries the Skyline part was dropped due to worries of putting higher buyers off do to its street racer image.
So for me its great to see the hardcore image return.

Actually Hijikata
Then you could say the same about every Skyline as i dont believe the RB engine was part of the Skyline since 1957 when they came out.So just changing the engine and moving bits around hasnt changed the name for all those years.
And also many early reviews of the car named the cars as the Skyline also due to early programes being made before the choice.

Actually Tricky the Skyline part is dropped mostly to the fact that every Skyline in the past was an in lined 6 (RB26DETT in the R34) and now the new V6 engine VR38DETT. Of course it looks nothing like the older models due to the new Mid-front design they are going for with the engines. The placement of the engine behind the front axle and the change in engine design both attributed to the GT-R not being called a Skyline.
The only thing I see similar between the 2 cars now is the GT-R badge.
Tricky if you read my post above you would notice that I said Inlined 6 I did NOT say that they were all RB now did I? Also, I never mentioned the body style changing or the G-7/RB26 differance. In the traditional sense all Nissan Skylines are inlined 6 engines with a FR Layout. The new GT-R Breaks these traditions by switching from a Inlined 6 format to a V-6 format; also Skylines have always been FR layouts since they were still called Prince Skylines. The new "Skyline" if you must call it that is a FM layout. In every since of the word, you may call it a "Skyline" but it will not be a traditional Skyline. A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet correct? Well this "rose" is actually a tulip and shouldn't be called what it isn't. You can't put a RB26DETT in the front half of a Lambo and called it a Lambo now can you? It changes everything that car was ment to be.
Subs, it's not that I have anything againest anyone, certainly not againest Tricky I got slightly testy early due to Long's post, and the fact that large tree branches covered in ice are threatening to crush my vehicles. Kazutoshi Mizuno has stated "You cannot compare the old with the new." The GT-R has a curb weight of 3,836; 441 more pounds(200kg) then the R34; Mizuno also stated that instead of the oversteer you know the R34 for, the new GT-R is more geared toward understeer.
It's not that I want to fight or anything, I love Nissan cars, I've always love the Skyline(not the R33.) I am sure I am gonna love this car when it is released, but for all terms and purposes this isn't the Skyline people love. I think it will be more loved then that; that the GT-R will create it's own name, it will become more famous than the Skylines of the past. However, I feel and I know others agree with me that too much as changed with this supercar to call it a "Skyline." It looks completely different, it's more powerful, it carries it's weight differently, hell it carries 200kg more weight, and while it carry's the name of Nissan it will always be associated with the Skyline. If Mitsubishi was coming out with this for competition with the Skyline they wouldn't even compare because they are so different. Thats just my opinion I am sorry if I seemed abrash with you guys earlier but thats just how I feel.
I love the fact that it's Nissan and I think it's awesome that it can post a time of 7:38 at 'Ring, I still don't think it's a car we can compare the Skyline too. Hell, for $70,000 you can't beat the price. The 3.5s 0-60 might be worth it alone.

Sweet car would love to have the spare money to buy one.
Seems that Hijikata.has got some issues which is common place everywhere inlife. please chill man all i read which i have seen on many forums and reviews and one many concept vids about the new GT-R is what tricky was saying about the name, and thats all he seemed to have said unless you two been mailing each other.
All i can go by is what i have seen and it seems a few others have and on the GT-R main site where i have also read about it was and still could be a skyline gt-r or just gt-r but i have read this on loads of car sites.for different reasons.
So Hijikata.what do you have an issue with this if you work in Nissans marketing department for the world market then you can give an true answer and know all the reasons instead of you juding one and not many factors iam sure Nissan thought about then i will back you up all the way.
Please chill and accept that not you alone will know all the facts about something hence this being a helpful place for each others experience.

It is a nice car, but I would not get one. The new GT-R is a big change from the old one in performance.
The R34 Skyline GT-R went from 0-60 in 5.2 seconds and had a top speed of 165mph.
The New GT-R does it in around 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 192mph.
It's main competetitor is the Porsche 911 Turbo.
Both cars are twin turbo's with 6 cylinder engines.
Porsche is the leading manufacturure in turbocharging technology and the leading company in 6 cylinder engine technology. They have awards for making the fastest 6 cylinder engine.
I would choose a Porsche because they have much more experience.

Dealers will not get many so if you were to shell out close to 90 large get in line. The dealerships that sold the most Z cars Last year will get the biggest selection. And Technician training on this new model will be a big deal. STICKY AND FAST

Great sled, sick performance... but Nissan is going to get the same customer backlash Ford did, when buyers of the Ford GT had to pull into manufacturer service centers and had to stand in line with owners of F150's and Escorts.
Nissan would do well badging the GT-R as a Infiniti, because at ~$75K+ it's going to attract buyers who expect more from their dealerships.
