I will be visiting friends in Washignton DC for a week. I will have a duffel bag. Can I bring my luggage on the bus/metro since I will be coming from BWI? Thanks.

Yes. To get from BWI downtown, there is a bus that goes to the Greenbelt metro station. There is room for luggage on this bus as most passengers carry luggage. I bring luggage on the metro all of the time when I travel, as do many people. If you can, avoid rush hour (7-9am and 5-7pm) because it's a nightmare to ride the metro without bags as there are too many riders during these hours.

yes you can bring it onboard. since you're coming from BWI you will have to take the MARC Penn Line from BWI to Union Station in Washington, DC. a free shuttle bus will take from the terminals to the MARC station at BWI Airport (so you don't need to walk to the station).

At Union Station you can change to the DC Metro's Red Line or the Metrobus system to your final destination. when on the Metro, try getting a seat where can have you duffel bag in front of you and you're not blocking the alleys.

enjoy your trip.

Yep. I've done it, and I see people with suitcases on the bus frequently. Just make sure you don't have it in a place where it'll smack someone in the head. A considerate person will offer his/her seat if the Metro/bus is crowded.

Yes there is no problem with this. It can be useful to be in one of the end cars on the train, which has more space for luggage and such.
