i have had 7 root canals....3 of them have failed and i have to have an apicoectomy on all 3 of them...i'm not worried about any of the pain or swelling afterwards...my concerns are:

1..is it a bad procedure?
2..will i have to have anesthesia or can i just be numbed?
3..is what i will hear and feel during the procedure similar to
having a root canal?

if anybody has had this procedure recently, please give me some insight on what to expect...

Apicoectomies are not bad procedures; the procedure is done to remove an infected root tip that a root canal procedure has been unable to save, so that the entire tooth doesn't have to be removed.

Undergoing an apico will call for you to be numbed in that area (local anesthesia). As for general anesthesia, that will depend on the patient's request.

Apico's are different procedures from root canals, so what you hear and feel will not be the same. The gum tissue from the cheek side of your root canal treated tooth will need to have a flap made, and the bone on the apical section of your tooth (very bottom) will need to be removed. An amalgam plug will be placed to help seal your root. The remaining space that was made vacant by the apico will have bone placed, and your gum flap will be sutured back into place.

As for having 7 root canals and having 3 fail, that may depend on how long the root canals have been in your mouth, the type of filling that was placed over them, what your oral hygeine is (if the filing was leaking), and other circumstances. Over time, root canals may fail, and retreatment may not be able to save the tooth. If that is the case, apicos are usually recommended to help save the tooth.

You can just be numbed and it's similar to a root canal, but done from the outside. It doesn't hurt. There might be a little swelling.

How can any one have to have 7 root canals and have 3 failures?

You need a new Dentist AND better oral Hygiene.

Start brushing and mouth washing with HYDROGEN PEROXIDE DAILY. It will keep your mouth healthy. It is simple and kills the pain and makes very healthy gums.

I have done this for 43 years (and I have very poor teeth) but my gums stay healthy and that keeps my teeth healthy.

Start it promptly, you might very well save having another root canal.

But please GET A NEW DENTIST AND TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF YOUR MOUTH. A SICK MOUTH CAN ACTUALLY KILL YOU. (My Mom died after poor work from a Dentist, your heart can become infected).
