Was he an enraged parent who finally came to his senses, and trying to placate Isaac, he told him that God told him to do it, so the child would continue to trust him ?
Do you think this story spawned the question "what in God's name do you think you are doing"?

The point is, there are people out there today, killing using God's name as a justification. Why should I believe Abraham was telling the truth? Does that mean I have to accept this justification for the other crazies? There is only one God.

God said He would provide the lamb, was it because of free will that Abraham chose to read into it that God wanted him to sacrifice his son? I believe that God considers all of his creatures, including lambs, to be precious.

Well, if we assume that the Christian God is real then Abraham wasn't crazy, but he was a very devout follower - ready to sacrifice his son on the word of his god.
Although if it/He were real it would raise the question (at least in my mind!) what sort of 'loving' god demands that sort of test of a faithful worshiper.
If he was crazy (literally insane), it's unlikely that he suddenly came to his senses. However, maybe he created the test himself, but allowed himself not to kill his son to keep the idea that his god is a loving and benevolant being alive (after all it/He can't be that loving if he makes a father kill his son!).
If Abraham was as devout as he was supposed to be (assuming that a very, very old story hasn't exaggerated his faithfulness) then I don't think he would have had a moment of extreme anger at his son, nearly killing him and would then take the lord's name in vain by insinuating that it's His fault. I believe that would be a sin.
Your last question made me laugh. I don't think you're far off with that one!

It seems you may have missed the whole point of the situation! The Lord had promised that through the seed of Abraham and Isaac, would all the families of the world be blessed. The Lord called Abraham out to the wilderness to offer up a sacrifice and told him to bring Isaac with him. When they came to the appointed place, Abraham built an alter and He asked the Lord where was the sacrifice that he was to offer. The Lord told Abraham to place Isaac on the alter and use Him for the sacrifice. Abraham obeyed and placed Isaac on the alter and was about to kill little Isaac but the Lord stopped him and Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught in a thicket and he used the ram as the sacrifice. The point here is that Abraham knew that even if he had sacrificed Isaac, the Lord had to resurrect him to fulfill the promise! Thats why we read in Hebrews that "Abraham believed God and it was accounted unto him as righteousness"

I think this question is proof that God actually exists. Abraham was the father of the Jewish people. God said that because Abraham obeyed God where Issac was concerned and didn't withold his only son, that God would bless him and his seed forever. If you take a look at the Jewish people, they are extremely blessed. Israel itself is turning from a 'borrowing' nation to a 'lending' nation. The blessing of the Jews confirms that God exists.

One of my best friends believes 3 of the world's major religions [Judaism, Christianity, and Islam] are based on one man's schizophrenia and violent behavior toward his children. The more I study about these religions, the more I think she just may be right.

What type of "loving" god would command someone to kill an innocent child? Today even CRIMMINALS kill one another for harming children. Are they more morally righteous?
