The use of the world Apostolic is unnecessary. I am asking this as a serious questions and appreciate a serious answer with justifiable support to it.

The Catholic Church does follow the teachings of the bible, but obviously interprets it differently. AND it DOES recognize all its scripture.
As I said, there is indeed a different interpretation, and there is indeed no direct mention of purgatory in the bible, but instead it is implied in the following scriptures: Revelation 6:9-11 and 1 peter 3:18-19 AND was taught by the earliest church fathers such as AUGUSTINE.
The Catholic Church does not claim that they are the only way to Christ, as our Catechism states that if one accepts Christ as lord they shall attain salvation.
Yes, there was obvious corruption in the church during the 16th century, but the Counter-Reformation that occurred following the protestant reformation was solely their to re-purify the church.
Confession is not in place to attain Christ's forgiveness through a priest, instead is to confess your sins to the community. As the bible says, The community of believers is of one heart and one mind.

Fact: The scriptures are no longer supressed and they were for only a short time.

Fact: The Majority of readers during the 16th century was indeed the wealthy upper class.

Here's an idea, before you attack something, gain a better understanding of it. All you really proved was that you are indeed a intolerant fool.

I'm a Confessional Lutheran. As such, I often defend the practice of confession and absolution, the belief in the real presence of Christ during the Eucharist, the practice of infant baptism, and a few others on this site, simply because these are biblical practices that are constantly attacked by anti-catholics in an attempt to show which side is ''more Christian.'' A lot of Protestants will gripe and complain about how Catholics supposedly go against Scripture, but usually fail to give sufficient scriptural support for their claims. True, I don't believe in praying to saints, or papal infallibility, but I have absolutely no reason to bash anyone for their own personal beliefs when it doesn't affect me or anyone else. It's simply none of my business.

Apostasy

EDIT: That was a serious answer..don't call it "not serious" just because I didn't go into detail. But you asked so here ya go....

They don't follow the teachings of the Bible or even recognize all of it's Scripture. They have doctrines that are not Words of God or the Bible such as purgatory and claiming that they are the Universal Church of Christ. They say they are for God but with popes and recent popes claiming they are the only way to God or self exalting themselves with power over the Church of Christ is an apostasy: an abandonment of what one has professed and departure from faith in God who alone can rectify a sin, not the pope. The Roman Catholic Church were the ones who suppressed the Bible and its teachings during the 16th century. Hundreds of years circulation of the Bible was prohibited by the Catholic Church. So people could be in ignorance of the Scriptures and its sacred truths oppsed to the papacy. Anyone or anybody who opposes what God's Word says and develops their own doctrines opposed to what the Bible says is anti christ. Faith is transferred from Christ , the true foundation to the pope of Rome. Instead of trusting in the son of God for forgiveness of sins and for eternal salvation, the people look to the pope. When the Scriptures are suppressed and man comes to regard himself as supreme we need only look for fraud, deception, and iniquity.

The individual practices and beliefs vary slightly. The Orthodox do not recognize the papal authority as infallible as the Roman Catholics do. They have different ways of worship and baptism. Mostly in Orthodox it is submersion but in Roman Catholicism it is usually water over the head.

Roman Catholics agree on the basics: the virgin birth, resurrection and deity of Jesus. His atoning death. The main problem I have with the Catholic church is that they place more emphasis on church tradition than they do on the Bible.

That it tries to lure in members when they are not ready to make decisions about their future and their religious values. This happened to me personally, as I was in communion and completed confirmation before I even had an idea of what it was all about.
