I would like to know from someone who knows their bible very well. Would being a surrogate mother for a friend (divorced male) be biblically sound? Are there any particular verses you could site in a case like this?

Who cares? If you want to help your friend, do it.

Hi There,

Just because the term "surrogate" is not in the bible does not mean it did not exist....... Sarah had Hagar as a surrogate because it was considered a curse in those days for a woman who could not produce children... or to be a barren woman......

Life was called a "fruit" and a woman who could not produce was called "fruitless"..... what good is a tree that produces no fruit if that is its purpose..... And so the purpose was to beget children and pass the breath of life for the next generation....

A man who had no children had no further life to offer the coming generations......

A surrogate, therefore, made a family whole.

it is not that Hagar did not work.... proof is found in the nations present in the world today........ that child, Ishmael, (through Hagar) - the present day Arabians.

are you saying you want to make a baby with this man? i can tell you what the biblical stance is, but you need to think of the reality of the situation instead.

babies don't come with receipts. you can just return them to the store. you would be a mother and this man may not be ready for the responsibility of a child, regardless if he thinks that a child is what he really wants.

is he more than a friend to you? this could cause serious problems in the future psychologically, financially, and otherwise. you need to know that is what you want for certain.

divorces happen when one or more party has trouble being selfless. can this man be selfless regarding a child?

it's the hardest thing in the world to be a parent.

sorry if i'm preaching. you just need to have all the info you can before you go stepping off.

I don't think there is a clear verse in regards to this. It was not uncommon for servants to be surrogate mothers for barren women so their husbands could have off springs.

Technically, wasn't Mary a surrogate mother when she gave birth to Jesus?

The Bible has nothing specific to contribute on this issue. But I don't see any reason not to do something like that.
