when you think ill of someone you tell yourself that you are better than they are.
when you think well of someone you wonder if they might be better than you.
the less a person find to be proud of in themself, the more urgently they will need to think ill of other people.

this is a very good question. I don't think people always do that, however those that do, this could very well be the reason- if they point out the bad in others, they "think" that it makes them look better. However, we can always find someone that is "not quite as good as we are"- however if we really looked at the holiness of God we would realize that we aren't too good either.

Because before we have got we are still stuck in that human nature, instinct, we thought we had it all figured out, and then we are told something different, something that doesn't make sense of what is right there in front of us, until we have faith, open up our hearts and actually let The Lord in, then we see all, that God wants us to see.

I think it is easy for some people to always except the good without question, but I think that we, as a people, were brought up to be weary and untrusting. Not to be mean, but to be able to protect ourselves from someone who may not have our best interests in mind.

I suspect it's like poison. you just need a little bit to make something otherwise good completely horrible. in this case, a little bad makes everything good questionable, and people expect more bad things as part of a pattern of behavior.

Believing someone is good is trusting them, so leaving yourself open and vulnerable for attack, whereas, believing someone is bad and to have your guards up is safer. Besides, people who are bad do not go about advertising they are bad, so you have to go through a discovery process. Ironically the truly good do not go about advertising they are good either, so you have everyone pretending to be "not-bad" and few if any advertising they are "good".
I hope this makes sense.

People tend to think they are better, smarter, more deserving and less guilty than others. Once people can think of what's best for others, then maybe things will change. It could happen.

Because it takes a lot less consideration to condemn someone. To make them look better in your eyes you would have to actually talk with them and get a better understanding of.

Because there are few people who are totally uncorrupt, and selfless. Many are corrupt, greedy, or selfish. I do not count myself as uncorrupt, nor as selfless. I have my bad spots, and so do others, though their good things should out weigh the bad.
