Because of some injuries it's very painful to lie down, and I'm getting really tired of sleeping in a chair! Anyone have any suggestions to make it more comfortable to sleep once you're hurt? Has anyone tried the foam mattress topper pads and had any success? All suggestions welcome, thanks at 3am, no points for guessing why I'm up at this hour.. :)

Not being able to sleep because of pain has got to be one of the worst experiences. I know I've sat and held my head, nearly crying because I was so tired but couldn't sleep because of the pain. I hope you find a solution soon.

I don't know if any of my suggestions will help, but I'll try anyway...

If you can sleep sitting up, maybe you could prop yourself up on pillows in the bed? I did this after surgery and it helped me greatly. My niece has a triangular shaped wedge thing (don't know what it's called) that goes under her mattress to keep her sleeping at a proper angle for her reflux, that may work for you too.

We purchased a foam mattress (mattress, not a topper) from Wal-Mart and it was useless to me. I have herniated discs and nerve damage in my back. The foam was about 6-8" thick and I'm thinking of cutting it up for dog beds. I have heard great things about the foam toppers though I've never used one myself.

I agree that you should have some type of pain or sleeping meds if you're having this much trouble. If your Doc doesn't agree then maybe it's time for a new Doc! If you just don't want to take them, then I can say that I've had really good success knocking myself out by taking a hot bath before bed, having a glass of wine, having a cup of decaf tea, reading a book, cuddling with my doggy, or any combo of those things. I've also read that creating a bed time "ritual" is really good for putting us to sleep. Doing the same things, in the same order every night right before bed lets our minds and bodies know it's time to rest. Also, watch your caffeine intake, stop for at least 3 hours before bedtime.

I hope you find some relief very soon. If you've not tried a pain management doc maybe that could help you?

What about one of those Craftmatic beds? I have no idea of the cost, but it might be something to look into.

Are you currently under the care of a physician? Perhaps you need some prescription pain medication or sleeping pills to get you through this time. I am a chronic knee pain sufferer and I am prescribed pain medication because even though I tend to fall asleep just fine, when I roll over during the night, my knee pain will wake me up. Could you be more specific on your inuries and what and where and when it hurts? I might be able to offer some more suggestions then. Feel free to e-mail me. Take care.

We;re in the same boat. I have osteo-arthritis in the severe degenerative stages. I've had surgery on my back eight times now, to no avail. I was just implanted with a medtronic electric spinal stabilizer. I'm still getting used to it but, it seems to be helping. No more drugs after 14 years.

I don't know what your problems are, other then "pain" where, how, why.

See your doctor and or a neurologist.

Are you taking a pain killer?
Motrin or Aleve.
Try either ice packs or heat...or whichever feels good. Try Capsacin, you rub it on it feels hot and irritates the muscles to help healing.

Those egg crate foam toppers are very comfortable but my back isn't injured.

Have you been to physical therapy. I found that very helpful.

Hope you feel better.
