I have a Red Heeler, aged 2, and he acts aggressive to people he doesn't know. He jumps, barks and growls at them, and they get very frightened. My husband won't put him in obedience school, and whenever my daughters friends come over, they either have to stay in her room, or he has to be locked up. My mom is coming to visit, and I'm afraid Trigger (The Dog) will scare her! We've tried everything to get him used to people, but it doesn't work. Please help me!!!

What kind of dog does your husband have? It's obviously not the same one you are writing about ... because that one spells "obedience school or bust."
Get the dog the training it needs or be prepared to pay the piper.

Trigger thinks he's in charge. You have a time bomb on your hands. You could get into trouble if your dog bites one of your daughters friends. And it sounds like that could happen soon.
He needs obedience training. I suggest you and your husband both get involved so the dog knows that both of you are above him and that Trigger is the subordinate, right now he's the alpha of the pack.
As for shock collars I've used them and think they are great, but in this situation I wouldn't recommend using it due to his aggressive behavior. It could possibly backfire. You need to see a professional trainer so he can get a good read on Trigger and go from there.
Is he neutered? Neutering will calm him down by reducing the testosterone levels.
Good Luck

We do a couple of things with our dog. Our dog isn't mean but does jump, bark, growl and scare them also.
1. We will put the leash on our dog whenever people come over and hold her back with the leash.
2. If she gets too crazy we will grab her and put her in a submissive hold. (If you don't know what that is exactly do some research). We tell her "NO NO NO" and hold her down until she submits. This teaches her that this is unacceptable behavior
3. If she is doing alright we reward with treats.
recruit a friend that Trigger doesn't know and have them come over to help you train him on your own. They can come and go inside and out for a little while to try different training techniques. We don't really have any close friends to ask to come over so we have never doen this. But we use the submissive hold regularly. For a couple days after we have taken her down she does pretty good but eventually goes back to her old ways.
Good luck.

It will take time to change how your dog behaves and feels about other people. It takes a committed owner to do this. You need to learn about triggers, thresholds, counter conditioning and desensitization. It does not involve hurting or scaring your dog. The dog should not be allowed to practice the bad behavior so keeping him away from people is a good idea until you know how to proceed. Next time people come over make sure you have something super good, like a marrow bone or special chew that he ONLY gets when people come over. You want the dog to begin to associate good things with people. This is a start.

A spray bottle filled with water worked with 1 of ours, and cleared his bad habbits qucikly. Another dog of mine goes so crazy with company we resorted to a shock collar, but that sounds cruel. However, we could not get him under conterol any other way. We started putting on the collar when we were expecting company. It has an alarm tone which sounds first, if he still acts like he will attack, then give him a quick shock (it's all done with a remote control. We only had to shock him twice, and now the alert tone stops him in his tracks and he goes to his bed. What a blessing it's been to have him under control . We adopted him from the pound and he had some very big problems. For the most part he's very good now, and the water spray snaps him to attention. We haven't had to use his collar anymore in months.

Benadryl is not the solution, in fact it will make a dog sleep,...but that is only used for medical problems...i cannot believe someone really said give the dog benadryl...hope they dont own a dog....
get the dog some professional help fast, obedience training quick.....keep the dog away from your mom....lease him and make him sit or lay down while in the room with her or anyone else for that matter.....but get him some help quick, or he could really hurt someone, maybe you....

For a quick solve, board the dog until the visit is over. I agree with the others that obedience training is in order. Time to show him who is boss and who is not. A little benadryl liquid is a good sedative.

Cattledogs are a handful! But there is hope.
Our blue boy was like that, tho not as bad as you describe. We haven't totally gotten him over it but through training which involved a lot of socialization he is much better. I would now describe him as generally friendly but not a "lovey dovey" except to us, his own pack.
We are still working on his leash aggression with other dogs. :-(
Good luck with your red boy's training.

examine her backside to make beneficial it particularly is no longer caught up w. dried..... properly you recognize... if so a heat soak in a bath will help... if she's no longer visibly stopped up... provide her some canned pumpkin... no longer the pumpkin pie blend... a hundred% pumpkin... it is going to help with constipation and diareah... and it particularly is extreamly sturdy for them... start up with a pair of table spoons... My doggies (back while they had the undertaking, enjoyed it and it did help) on the 1st availble time you need to get your canine to the vet to make beneficial there is not any blockages from the interior... yet with my journey some doses of a hundred% pumpkin helps... P.S. diverse excersize helps plenty! besides fiber, excersize is a backsides ultimate buddy! gets the insides shifting around... play some fetch or basically run around together with her a jointly as.
