I am a hunter of coyote, fox, jack rabbit, and other like game, i want a bolt action, and a semi auto rifle, with either a .223, .308, or .22-250, or other like caliber which is capable of great distances, i am a varmint hnter also. my price is shallow under 1000, and i need the classic look. I am wanting something with a magazine, or without. Not wanting a .22 or smaller, but what would be a nice gun?

For under $1000 I put together a Savage 10FP rifle, and it's a great performer, especially with heavier bullets that are good for long range, high wind situations. I bought the Savage used, pre Accu-Trigger, but you could just about pull it off with a new 10FP and keep it under your one-grand limit.
What I would(and, in fact, did) get for an ultimate Varmint hunter is:
Savage 10FP .223 = $649
SWFA SS 10x42 (or 16x, 20x) = $299
Burris Xtreme Tac 30mm rings (low) = $56
Rock Mount 6"-9" BiPod = $38
SWFA SS 42mm Sun Shade = $12
All in all, it's a good setup for targets or varmints. The Savage is a superb rifle, and I wouldn't trade it for much, and certainly not anything in it's price range. If someone came by with an FN SPR, I might be out a rifle, but I doubt that'd happen. The SWFA SS scopes are like nothing else in their price range. They're a tactical mil-dot scope, with repeatability superior to some of the higher end scopes, but their only shortcoming is the quality of the lenses. There is a little reflection in some situations, mainly looking into the sun, but a sunshade or two really will help. The Burris rings are pretty impressive, they add about another pound to the total weight of the rifle, and could probably stand up to anything the $150 rings could. A little Loc-Tite putting them on, and they'll never move again. The Rock-Mount bipod I picked up at the local Gander Mtn, they were on sale, and it's pretty much a Harris clone, but for a little less. One of mine had a loose nut on one of the legs, but again, a little Loc-Tite, and it was back in place for good.
If you want to hide the reflection on your scope or cut down on glare, stay away from those little 'Kill-Flash' devices, they do reduce the quality of the image through your scope. Like they say, they're as effective as a 9" sunshade, so just get a longer sunshade.

what gun you get depends on what u plan to do with the hides of the fox and coyote after you take them.If you are wanting to sell them then go with the 223 or the 22-250.wont be as much pelt damage with those.if you are going to be hunting prairie dogs i would definitely go with the 223 .shooting a 22-250 all day will start getting to your shoulder plus ammo is alot cheaper for the 223.cant say i would use the 308 for varmints on a regular basis but it would do the job.if I had $1000 dollars to spend on a varmint rifle ,I think I would go with the savage predator ,it was built for varmint hunters come in 223 22-250 and 204 only.will shoot sub moa out of the box ,and has over sized bolt handle .real nice rifle.cost you about $600 maybe a little less .that would leave 400 for agood scope Nikon or better.you must remember that the farther you shoot the more important your scope becomes .you can take a lower grade scope that works great out to 250 yrds and you may not be able to hit a bull in the butt at 350 because of distortion and parallax in the scope.good luck hope this helps

To hunt smaller game, Cotote and smaller you cannot use a big rifle like a 308 and 30-06.... the largest round you should use would be I would say is a 22-250..... or a 22 magnum or 22 long.... all of these can be found with a magazine.... but shooing a fox or jack rabbit with an AK or AR-15 will leave nothing left of the animal.....

I would suggest that you go with a Savage 110 and chambered in .223 or .308 and top with a quality scope with parallax adjustment as well as magnification adjustment. A scope with a range finder is also a plus. you should be able to get this package together have a traditional looking long range killer and maybe still have enough left over for a nice bi-pod.
Good hunting.

I'm a full time hunter and I would go with a 223. Ruger Mini 14-varmint barrel with a harmonic dampner to tune for loads such as hard point or soft point. Hard point would be less of a mess for small game. People up north use it for walrus and beluga.

The Howa .22-250 varminter is a great buy. Then you can afford a decent scope.

22-250 by Remington, Savage, Winchester or Ruger.* I prefer a 20 power target scope to top it off.*

LOL your enjoyed ones appears like a great risk-free environment for slightly one to develop up in. jk jk lol. i will in ordinary terms truly think of of Gunner and Colt, which countless human beings have already suggested. Colt however additionally jogs my memory of a horse, so circulate with Gunner in case you rather desire a gun-type call to your baby... there is truly no mistaking its meaning! somewhat of calling him Gun for short (as in "did you men see the place my Gun went?" and having one thousand million human beings calling the law enforcement officers on you once you %. him up from college), you are going to be able to desire to apply guy for short, that's truly quite attractive. good luck!!

If you want something with distance, the .308 Winchester round is the all around round to consider. The only thing which is slightly better is the 30-06.
