I mean, did they personally take a hand in writing the genetic code?

I am not anti kid by any means - I wanted to raise the point that a man and woman having sex and concieving have done the easy part - then comes the miracle of the unfolding of the genetic blueprint, and I dont think mum and dad were seated around a table with a slide rule supervising that.

obviously they cant write the genetic code, but that's not what makes them who they are. people go through so much to have children and spend so much time raising their children and protecting them. when your child comes out to be a wonderful person then of course people should take pride in that...they raised them didnt they. is not your child a reflection of how you raised them? even if the baby is only a few months/weeks old, the mother had to carry the baby for 9 months and the father was there to support. why shouldnt they be proud in what they were able to create? you dont need to hand make all the materials to be proud of what you create...if you did whatever you could to try to make sure the baby you are developing right and you did everything you could to make sure it was healthy then when a parent see's all that work paid off with a beautiful baby then of course they are going to be proud. duh. i'm guessing you dont have children.

I'm assuming that you don't have children?
As someone else stated, we pretty much are their genetic code, LOL!
First of all, we brought our children into the world. We are nurturing them, helping them grow into the beings that they are. We love them in a way that we can't love another person.
My husband and I have two beautiful children, a son (8 1/2) and daughter (5). The amount of pride we have for them is so great. Our son plays hockey and has improved so much in the past few months, watching him out on the ice is awesome. His schoolwork is going really well, his grades have been A's and B's, pretty much.
Our daughter, born with a cleft lip/palate, has had 7 surgeries so far, many more to come. She's in speech therapy, and the progress she has made is tremendous. She's in kindergarten, loving every minute of it, doing really well.
Yup, we're proud. :)

Genetics are not all that makes the child into the person they grow up to be. A child learns from their environment, their upbringing plays a big part in who they are. I am proud to say that my son is my heart, soul and breath and I am very proud of him. Even when he annoys me hahaha.

We expected them for 9 month, we were taking care of them day and night for other 12 month, we are taking care of them when they need that by now
and they are actually influenced not only by their genetic code, but also by how we've "designed" their emotional environment ... their life.

sure I did LOL. I am proud of my kids but I am proud of my friends kids, friends and family when they accomplish something. Yes I am exceptionally proud of my kids when they try hard to do something and succeed. Nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is telling everyone and bragging to excess

we take so much pride in our children because they are part of us, they are special and we love them to death.
What parent wouldn't take pride in their child?
We may not have written the genetic code but hey we carried them around for 10months, we ate healthy and made sure all of our child's needs were met before they were even born.
I'm proud of my children and who they are becoming and its because my husband and i raised them.
I love my kids to pieces and i am proud to be their mother and am proud to have them as my children and i wouldn't change a single thing about them or who they are.
