I have had this idea for several weeks. Build mechs, Like in Mechwarrior 3. It would cost alot of money, and there would be staybility issues, But couldnt it be possible? They're making small robots, that can walk on their own, so why not take that, and make it on a larger scale?

I'm not sure how familiar you are with math and geometry, but I'll give this a shot.

The first basic problem has to do with the strength of materials.

The total strength of any object tends to increase or decrease based on it's *cross sectional area.* However, it's *weight* increases according to it's volume. Cross sectional area is roughly proportional to the *square* of an object's size; while volume, and hence weight is proportional to the *cube* of size.

Therefore, if you double the size of an object, it's strength increases by 4 times, while it's weight increases by 8 times. If you triple the size, the strength increases by 9, while the weight increases by 27. The same "square-cube rule of scaling," also applies to the force that can be applied by muscles, or by hydraulic cylinders. A muscle that is twice as large, can provide 4 times the force, but weighs 8 times as much. The larger the muscle gets, the more of it's own weight it has to support, until it can't even support itself. much less the rest of the animal......

This explains why something as small as an ant or beetle can lift 50 times it's own weight, while an average human can only lift about his or her own body weight. An elephant, as large as it is, can only lift about 1/10 of it's total weight.

The second problem is similar. Assuming you could make a giant robot strong enough but light enough, how much power would it need to move? Could you make an engine that was powerful enough, but would be light enough for the robot to carry safely?

The same kind of "scaling" rules that apply to strength versus weight considerations, also tend to apply to engines. Modern gas turbines might enable you to build a robot the size of a very large piece of construction or mining equipment, but that would be pushing the limits.

Such a creation would not be able to move very quickly or easily. As "mrlexington" points out, and as is obvious in the video provided by the first respondent, giant robots would be very slow and clumsy on the battlefield. You might as well paint them with giant bullseye patterns.

The point of this, is that a robot, or any vehicle can only be made so large, until it becomes too heavy to support it's own weight or move around. That means that martial arts, epic duels, or crazy combat maneuvers by giant robots are ridiculous. The forces imposed on the robot's joints, limbs, and motors would be just too extreme for any known material or source of power.

Hope that makes sense,

Biped motion has not been perfected yet and won't be for several years to come. I suppose it would be possible to create such a thing with currently technology but the resources that it would take would be ridiculous. Besides what would the purpose be? That kind of warfare doesn't play out pragmatically. Those mechs would be siting ducks and would get blown up before they had a chance to move. As cool as it might seem I'm not sure if the evolution of warfare would lead to giant Mechs running around destroying each other. It would be pretty damn cool though.

now honestly... when ppl say size doesnt matter its both true and untrue... i have been with small guys, and still enjoyed the sex bc i loved them.... however... after having bigger, you get spoiled... i dont meausre the men i slept withs *****... umm... the man im with now is not the biggest ive had but its not the smallest either, and i wouldnt give up sex with him for anything. just know how to use it... and if you find a girl who would ever talk **** about your penis... dont be with her... bc shes clearly seen too many and why would you wanna put him in that wide hole anyways. as long as when you are hard... she can feel it... your good bro.

It's being done on a small, non-production scale.
