my puppy seems to have a really bad stomach ache. one night, she was whining a lot and her stomach was growling pretty loud. she didnt eat anything that night but a couple bites of cesar. so my dad took her to the vet the next morning. they said he could leave because its gonna take a while. in about an hour they called and said he could pick her up, when he came they gave him this science diet dog food stuff. she was doing fine that day but the next day she wasnt really hyper as usual. usually shed run around and jump on you a lot but she didnt do that. all she did was wag her tail and came up to me when i came home, and right now shes sleeping but she whines a little and she still hasnt pooped at all. what should i do?

1.Take it to another vet!!!!
2. Science diet is crap dog food. Get it a good quality dog food. (Holistic, Organic, All natural). When you do switch its dog food slowly....
Best luck. Hope poor little thing gets better soon.
God Bless.

You didn't state what the vet called what you called a "stomach ache". Nor what the vet did to get her to be okay to go home. There's not a LOT that can be done & recovered from in just 1 hour.
Nor did you tell us how old she is, and what breed.

A hyper-active pooch fed on kibble (regardless of the brand) has me expect bloat, sooner or later.
See the articles in http://www.vet.purdue.edu/epi/bloat.htm and note that very few people knew about kibble before the time stated but nowadays most people do lazily use kibble. Not much else has changed in the dog world, just the switch from REAL food to kibbles, and GDV-bloat is now something like 18000% more common than it was 35+ years ago. (It's a while since I read the articles, so my figures could be slightly out.)

We cannot tell from an e-mail whether what you call "she whines a little" is just the sort of whimpering a puppy makes while dreaming, or is a pain response.

You say she hasn't been eating. Therefore it stands to reason that she isn't producing faeces. The concern is about WHY she hasn't been eating, not the lack of solid output.
I don't know what a "a couple bites of cesar" is, but if you meant Caesar's salad, that is FAR from what I regard as suitable dog food. Apart from the eggs and cheese, it is all plants (carnivores cannot digest uncooked plants unless they have been pre-digested by special enzymes; anchovies are not part of a true Caesar's salad), and several of the ingredients are irritants, with the garlic being an actual poison to dogs!

Not eating for longer than 24 hours is a danger signal.
She doesn't sound depressed in your message, just maybe a little uncomfortable.
I hope she is drinking normally?

When she wakes, try her on slivers of cheese and real meat.

Unless she is closer to normal tomorrow, back to a vet you go. First get one of your parents to talk on the phone to the vet who attended to her, so your parents can make an informed decision as to whether to return to that vet or a different one. Normally it is better to stick to the same vet, as he/she will already have charged you for, and have the results from, whatever tests were used, whereas a different clinic would need to do the same tests, which costs you plus delays a diagnosis being made.

Please don't start changing your dog's food on your own. She's having some sort of problem, none of us have any clue what it is and can't make a good recommendation of how to treat her. Your Mom or Dad needs to call the Vet. This may be normal behavior after whatever they did to her while she was there for that hour. Did the Vet send any papers home with your Dad? If so, get them out and look over them, sometimes they have instructions and/or details on them about what to do. In the meantime just let her rest and comfort her, but don't pester her. Most times when dogs don't feel well they like to be alone. Check on her often though.

I agree that Science Diet isn't one of the best dog foods available. However, I disagree that there's anything wrong with feeding your dog kibble. Please do NOT go and feed your dog raw meat right now, I can't see how that much of a diet change is going to be good for her condition.

By the way, "Cesar" is a canned dog food. She wasn't talking about a ceasar salad.

She's just going Thur some food adjustments. If you are worried call the vet. You don't want her not to have a BM. If the food is dry she may need more water and if the food is canned she may need more fiber. Pumpkin pie filling is good for pushing through the digestion. But talk to the vet. There is always a small chance that she has eaten something (a rock or something she found around the house) that has stopped up her intestines and that need VET HELP Her intestines can be greatly damaged it it is not discovered in time.

What did the vet say was wrong with her? If you are not happy with the results, or you feel there is something wrong, then get yourself a new vet. All vets aren't good, and I don't trust any of them that force Science Diet or Iams on people...

He might want to puke. You should check what you're feeding him. Any human food. Well if that doesn't work let him relax
