Gatso boxes are only after you've passed them.
Truvelo boxes are as you approach them
SPECS on motorways and dual carriageways are both directions and for the whole length of the enforcement.
02/20 lazers are front facing but work both ways the operators can swing them round to get a "rear" shot.
ANPR aren't speed cameras but are enforcement cameras and can get you from both directions and they know if you've got tax insurance mot or if the registered keeper has got any endorsements warnings too.
Behold the arrival of the RFID tag in 2008. this little device similar to what you find on your DVD or library book is going to be fitted to vehicles as of next year in the UK ( motorbike first) and you will pass through "LOOPS" on the side of the road which will identify your vehicle.. the problem is if you pass two loops it will work out your average speed and send you the Standard invite for a 3 point lottery ticket for a bicycle..

All speeding cameras have the facility to catch speeders both ways its up to the partnerships as what they want to do. Most of them set the cameras both ways I think

If there are lines on both sides of the road, then yes. The new infra-red types can catch you both ways.

The old Gatso type with a flash will usually only catch you from behind.

I guess if you're going in reverse in excess of the limit, yes.

The guy next door just happens to be a deputy sheriff and parks his cruiser next door. I usually walk by it to get the mail. It has a rear mounted radar gun, so, I would say, subjectively, if they have the rear gun on, yeah, you're victim if you're going too fast.

Tip: If ever caught speeding, BEFORE you pay any fines, ask for a calibration certificate, if they don't have an uptodate one, you will be pleasantly surprised :-)
