I borrowed my Aunts car for a few months and was pulled over for not having a front license plate (and additionally found out the cars tags were expired) a couple times. I told her and she said she would take care of it. I took her word, gave back the car and forgot about it. I just recently found out that my license is suspended because the fix it tickets were never taken care of. Apparently she let the car sit in the garage for almost 9 months and then sold it to another party. Since then, shes become unreachable and Im stuck with 2 HUGE fines I have to pay. I just want to know who's legally responsible for taking care of the tix... I assume the owner of the car and if theres any way I can avoid or lessen the fines have to pay.

Unfortunately since it had been an extended period of time from when the tix were issued, they have been turned over to collections (how I found out), so they are no longer in the courts hands.

HELP!!

YOU were driving, YOU got the ticket. YOU have to pay the fines.

Your assumption is wrong. The owner of the car is responsible for parking tickets. The driver of the car is responsible for safety violations, traffic violations, and other moving violations.

THE CAR did not get the ticket. You did. YOU were driving a car, without a front plate. It's YOUR responsibility.

Belinda is right in the first part anyway.
You are the responsible party of any car you drive. However since you had driven her car for nothing. Why in the world do you feel it is your aunts fault? You may go in front of the judge and plead your case just like you have done here.
First thing he will say. You had driven the car for a few months without paying for insurance/ wear and tear of the car. And now you are claiming to have been defrauded by the same lady that had allowed you to drive her car. Now she has sold her car. pay the fine and think of it as the car you rented.

When you signed the ticket, did you miss the part where _you_ agreed to take car of it's resolution?

Your aunt had absolutly no responsiblity to address _your_ tickets. You should have made sure/followed up and saw that the tags were brought up to date and then _you_ should have followed through with the local authorities to have your fines reduced.

You dropped the ball on this one. There is no need to blame anyone else for your sirtuation. You now need to follow through and take care of the issue on your own and consider it a life's lesson.

You got the tickets, not the car. So, you are responsible. Pay the fiens, get your license back and take your aunt to small claims court for the cost of the tickets.

I think you will find that you were responsible for making sure it was roadworthy before you got behind the steering wheel.

A licence plate is something you could have easily checked for. And to get done for it twice is just stupid.

You ALWAYS answer a ticket.
If you'd gone to court, you would probably have
been let off since it wasn't your car.
Now you're screwed.
