it all depends, some are for quick and others are taken overnight to help the next day.
one word on the prank thing, i know it sounds funny, but you can seriously die if you OD on those. its not a good thing, i know someone who had it happen to them (they didnt die i should mention, but could have). someone mixed candy with laxatives and they had to go to the hospital.
OFFTOPIC-> it was hilarious in Dumb & Dumber, but thats obviously in the movies..

Is this for a child that is constipated? If so, you need to get the child to a doctor. The child may have a blockage and giving a strong laxative can actually rupture a blocked gut and kill the child. Then you need to start workups to determine WHY the child is chronically constipated. Just treating a symptom without finding the cause is not good parenting.

Usually they work over night. Sometimes they can work in a matter of hours - depending on the person.
Never used them as a prank but it would be funny like on American Pie.

For me -- too long.
No I've never used them in a "prank", but I'm pretty sure you could get into some legal trouble by laxing somebody else.

I've never used one in a prank. But you sure use chocolate ex-lax by baking a bunch in some brownies or cookies!! (Funny, but bad idea.)
A suppository or Fleet enema work within minutes. But pills like ex-lax of Colace work overnight. :)

it realy depends on the brand you buy,some can take as long as 6 hour while others work within the hour, but although i have used it in a prank,cops dont look lightly on it,you could be charged with anything fro assault to poisoning.

If your thinking of pranking someone that way don't many people have medical issues that it could make them really sick and giving anyone any type of drug without their knowledge is ilegal and you can be held liable for it criminally and monatarily so just don't lol

no, because you can seriously hurt someone if you give them too much and you can't be the Judge on how much is too much

In 8th grade we wrote a play and the "gang kids" put laxities in the punch at the spirit rally. xD
