Vaccinations are just a very tiny bit of the virus so that your dog will build up an immunity to the disease.

The reason people don't get chicken pox twice is because once you get it the first time, your blood knows what the virus is and is able to better prevent it.

A rabies shot works the same way- they are injecting your dog with "dead" virus cells- they won't give him rabies because the cells aren't "living" and won't infect the dog's system entirely. It just gives his body an idea of what to look out for and fight against in the future.

A vaccine actually put the disease (dead or weak cells) in to the body so your body can make fighter cells that will recognize he disease if it every comes along. That way your body is ready to fight that disease (rabies, measles, etc.)
