My spine is a little out of alignment but I still feel I can do it. I'm in good shape and weigh what i should weigh. What I'm worried about is if they check my back would it disqualify me.

You might think you are OK but what happens when your partner is relying on you in a life and death situation and your back gives out?

Thats why they have fitness and health checks , if you are not 100% you are a liability to yourself and those that are serving with you.

I guarentee they will check your back , as well as full motor skills , any hint of scoliosis and its bye bye.

Dont lie about it , you may be able to decieve yourself but the doctors and examiners have seen it all from every type of wannabee and they will cut you no slack.

As far as weight goes your BMI should be around 26.( weight x height squared), to much higher or lower and you will be considered too fat or too thin.

The entrance test also involves carrying a dummy of an average size person in a firemans carry and also putting it into a police van / car as you would an arrested person. Both of these are to test back strength.

Agree with the other posters, if it doesn't affect your ability to do the job, you should be fine.

If they do disqualify you because of your back condition, look into jobs with your state/county department of corrections. Here in Arizona prison guards make almost as much as police officers do, and the qualifications are a little bit lower.

Good luck to you!

You'll never know until you try, call your local PD and ask , they should tell you, but honestly, if you are capable of doing the job, then it shouldn't be a big deal, but then again, it depends on the department.
