When I drink, even get drunk, I don't act crazy like I used to and like most girls my age do (I'm 19, almost 20). I started drinking this past march. I used to be CRAZY and do wild things with my girls, but even when I'm DRUNK nowadays I'm so calm. I don't lose my cool, I'm more chill. My friends ask me why I'm not drunk.. I am but I never get crazy anymore. What's going on? Is this norml for a 19 yr old girl?

Golly, this thing about college kids drinking, when did it start, it must be something totally new. When I was in college in the sixties we were much too busy to waste time on alcohol. I think, any way(it's difficult to recall).
Here's one thing you might consider, one of the signs of alcoholism is a sudden change in tolerance, pretty much just like you describe. That doesn't mean that you will find yourself waking up in an alley next week and it's only one sign, but just file this away for future reference.
Don't be too hard on the person that said it's stupid to drink alcohol,if someone has never enjoyed drinking, then it probably does seem stupid. I mean after all, it is toxic, and some people just don't understand that some poisons can make you feel good.
Here's a question,if you aren't enjoying it like you did a few months ago why are you still doing it?
One other thing, this "more chill' condition, could it be the leading edge of depression? Cause that's another sign.
Here's the point you should have a good time while your in college, but if you are drinking a lot and not having fun then it might be time to look for a new poison, just do it from an informed position. Do a little research.
Good luck and see you at the meetings.

So you are 19 years of age.lts nearly 2008,SO WHAT.Does that mean that you can drink more. The more you can drink now,the more you will drink in the future. Some future that will be.The person you called a retard, well sunshine, you are wrong there definately not a retard.Take a look in the mirror.Hope you are proud of yourself. You sound like a follower, not a leader.Heck !!!!!!! Good luck to a not so bright future.Live and learn.l agree with some other answers.lf you are in college, then do you really have all this time on your hands to get drunk??How about studying a little bit harder to achieve what you want to do in life.

I can only tell you that just because you can do something, doesn't mean that you should. Just because something is available doesn't make it good for you.

I read that a person should wait until after 21 years of age to drink, simply because the addiction factor is lower then. Something to do with the brain.

Although I doubt a drink now and then would kill anyone, you need to do research on breast cancer, liver cancer and such before you go off drinking a lot.

Whether you can hold it or not isn't the issue, the issue is this: " Should I put something in my body (which I only get one of) that may be doing damage that I cannot reverse?"

Yes, quite normal as your body has become more tolerant to the levels of your intake and copes with it. However, if you sustain from drinking for a lenghth of time your tolerence levels drop again and when you start again you could get drunk faster and do the same things as you were experiencing before. Sounds like you are finding your tolerence levels and controling the ammount you drink which is a good practice as some people tend to want to get drunk and to that crazy stage and increase the alcohol to get there.~well done.

You are developing a physical tolerance for alcohol. Be careful you may be becoming an alcoholic. Maybe you're not. Drinking is a personal decision. I suggest you check out the URL below and be honest with yourself.

Nobody every intends to get addicted. You just sort of wake up one morning and your train has stopped at addiction station.

Maybe you are just going through changes. I'm trying not to be preachy. I hope you are not at the beginning of a problem.

Good luck!

maybe your just being yourself????

I'm an alcoholic and have been in more bars that you've seen, and known more drunks than people you've met.

I'm sober almost 21 years now.
Drinkers act differently. Do you all act the same not drinking, are you robots, or are you individuals with different personalities and ideals?

As my mother always said! If they jumped off a cliff would you to?

maybe your getting to the point where drinking is more of a crutch than fun?

It seems that maybe going wild doesn't interest you as much anymore. It's normal. You might actually be maturing. Think about it, would doing something wild make you feel stupid? Is there a point to doing it anymore? It's ok if your friends want to do it, but there's nothing wrong if you don't want to. Although, legally, you shouldn't be drinking anyway.

Whatever you do, make sure you don't regret it later.

Alcohol only amplifies the mood you are currently in. If you are laid back then it will make you more that way. Maybe you are bored with your friends or feel like you are outgrowing them. It can happen. Don't blame it on the alcohol.

Seek out new stuff and new friends. Maybe you'll even find you don't care for alcohol and that you can have fun and be crazy without it. It was just the friends you had! That happened to me.
