My cousin has a puppy who is 7 weeks old and it is VERY bloated! Almost scary. Since he's sorry and doesn't care I've bought the poor thing deworming meds and I'm trying to get the pup from him. Now I know you say take him to the vet but here's the thing...this isn't my dog for one (and no my cousin would let him die b4 taking him) and my husband is military.. needless to say we make just enough to SCRAPE by. Going to the vet is not an option..David (cousin) just doesn't care. If anyone could suggest anything other than the vet I would GREATLY appreciate it. If you have no suggestions then please move on I beg you...I can't tolerate another rude person today. For those that can help thankyou so much and god bless.

because he is a puppy he'll be adopted quickly by another home, one who will hopefully give him the right love and care. Call the Humane society / ASPCA and report abuse and neglect, you'll save the puppy's life and give him a happier home. Your cousin doesnt have to know it was you.

take him to a shelter. Do you have a credit card you could use? I'm military too so I understand. You can and should call the police on him for animal neglect. Do you have a vet on base? They are much cheaper. GOOD LUCK!!!

If he starts vomiting with nothing coming out, turns on his side, lays like he's praying, or whines in pain, he needs to get in right away. dog bloat isn't as common in puppies as adults, but bloat is fatal if not treated. it could just be worms, but that would also need to be taken care of soon.

The pup probably needs to be dewormed. Sad to say, the deworming meds you can buy from a store really don't work. also, the Vet may want to check a stool sample under a microscope to see exactly what ype of worms the pup has, or sometimes they will just give a general dewormer. I do believe Strongid (general dewormer used for puppies and kittens) can be sold over the counter, it's pretty cheap too...call some Vet's and ask or do a search on the web to see if you can get it. Dosing is 1cc per 10lbs. Good luck!

You obviously care about the puppy . Unfortunately you are not in control of the situation . The puppy could have a number of conditions . Firstly , is it always been that bloated ? Is it in pain ? Is it still eating ? Are you feeding the right diet ? Has it passed worms ? Has it got vomiting /diarrhoea ? If it's eating and not in pain , probably it's worms . If it's got vomiting and diarrhoea , that's very bad news !

Since you are unable to care for him due to your situation, and your cousin is unwilling to do so, is there any chance you could persuade him to surrender the dog to the local shelter. They would be able to provide the vet care and locate a new home for the dog. Puppies are easy to place. If he is not going to care for it, he should surrender it in the hopes that it could find a new home that will provide for its needs.

I know it's an agonizing situation, and I hope you can persuade your cousin to do the right thing here.

Well.. The puppy could be full of worms, he could be over fed, he could be eating crappy dog food. It's hard to say with such little information. I think that you should know that withholding vet care from an animal that needs it, is neglect. Your cousin is in jeopardy of losing his dog and being charged if he doesn't properly care for his dog.. Money or not, the dog should be taken care of properly.

If you knew someone with a bloated baby, would you sit by and let it die because of financial issues and ignorance?

Over the counter de wormers are mostly crap. Don't trust them. He NEEDS to see a vet (Whether you want to hear it or not) If you are either unable or unwilling to get him help, you need to call the appropriate authorities and turn this over. It IS illegal to deny a puppy medical attention.

If it is bloat the puppy will most likely die. I am sorry that you are stuck in this situation, but vet is only option

If your cousin doesn't care, he shouldn't have a puppy. Ask him to give the puppy to you, and you should bring the puppy to a rescue group and put it up for adoption.
