For some reason my ears feel like they are clogged (Like when you're in a plane, or driving in the mountains) i checked with a Q-Tip and found no earwax. What's the problem, and how do i fix it?

It sounds as though you're feeling pressure in your ear(s), yes? There are structures (one for each ear) in your head which connect your mouth (pharynx actually) to your inner ear. These Eustachian tubes ensure that the pressure on each side of your eardrum is the same. When these tubes are plugged, as it sounds like in your case, the pressure is unable to equalize. This could be caused by several things, from the simple and benign, to very bad things best diagnosed and explained by your ENT.

There are a few simple and safe things to try before trotting off to your Dr. Scuba divers have to force their ears to equalize as they go deeper, you could first try this: take a deep breath, close your mouth, pinch off your nose, and "blow". This will force air through the Eustachian tubes and relieve your discomfort. Don't blow as hard as you can necessarily, but a little effort is OK.

You could also have an allergy or minor cold which tend to block the tubes as well. Sudafed does a bang up job of clearing that up. In fact again scuba divers will often take Sudafed profelactically to ensure that they can clear their ears. Give the Sudafed regimen a day to work, and you can try the scuba clearing method every few hours.

If that doesn't work, or if your pain is or becomes severe, go see an ENT.

Use Aurocaine2. It is a non-prescription medicine that dries the water in your clogged ears. I have used it several times and it works great. You can probably find it in the nearest drug store.

Q-tips are never recommended for ear-wax removal. There are dissolving agents in the OTC departments of retail stores, and all drug stores. Try using that, otherwise you may have an ear infection. Consult your doctor if the symptom persists.
