The land is a promise of the covenant between Abraham and God ...
There is a remnant of each of the 12 tribes who can truly call Abraham their father, i.e. they have the same faith as Abraham... they hold fast to a covenant friendship with God just as Abraham did. The covenant promises belong to them.
Israel itself is the Kingdom of God ... not a limited piece of land but the intent of God was that it expand to cover the entire Earth. That is why Jesus told His disciples to preach the Good News to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the Earth.
