Lilith is the legendary "first wife" of Adam, who was created as his equal and refused to lay beneath him. When he tried to force her, she left him.
She was cast into the role of a supernatural being with power over infants for a certain number of days after birth. She also took on a succubus-like role. She is regarded by some as either a Hebrew Goddess or a "demoness."

Lilith (Hebrew ××××ת) is a mythological female Mesopotamian storm demon associated with wind and was thought to be a bearer of disease, illness, and death. The figure of Lilith first appeared in a class of wind and storm demons or spirits as Lilitu, in Sumer, circa 3000 BC. Many scholars place the origin of the phonetic name "Lilith" at somewhere around 700 BC.[1] Lilith appears as a night demon in Jewish lore and as a screech owl in the King James version of the Bible. She is also apocryphally the first wife of Adam.

In the books left out of the bible - Lilith was Adam's first wife. Created from dust like he was. He wanted her to be submissive in sex, she said no. He rejected her and Lilith fled Eden and took up with demons and became a Hebrew boogeyman (woman?).
the legend of succubi and incubi are connected with her name and attacks on newborn children.

Very little is known about Lilith's background. A remarkably unemotional and restrained woman, her hair usually tightly pulled back in a severe bun, she has extremely pale skin and a monotonous voice, and dresses exclusively in drab, conservative clothing. Her body is intensely cold to the touch; Niles, after a much regretted night with her, claimed that he "learned [that] if you kiss her too fast, you get brain freeze." A recurring joke is that beneath the cold exterior simmers a wild, passionate sexual appetite that bursts out on occasion.
She first appeared in a single episode during the fourth season of Cheers, and later falls in love with and marries fellow psychiatrist Frasier Crane, becoming Dr. Lilith Sternin-Crane. Lilith and Frasier would go on to have a son, Frederick Crane. Lilith did not approve of Frasier bringing their baby son into Cheers, and her feelings appeared to be justified when little Frederick's first word was "NORM!" A Jewish woman, Lilith raised Frederick Jewish as well. It was clear that Lilith's approach to parenting was as cold and calculating as her scientific research, although she has shown great compassion towards Frederick, for example when she took singing lessons so she could sing to her son, much to Frasier's dismay. This caused several jokes in the bar at her expense. Lilith in an attempt to prove them wrong, sings " Danny Boy" to Frederick, which moved the entire bar to tears, and Cliff running to the phone to call his Ma.

In Rabbinical midrashes, Lilith is the first woman, created from dust just like Adam. She doesn't want to be submissive and is thus banished. She becomes a demon.

According to Jewish folklore, Lilith was Adam's first wife, created, like him, of clay. However, she refused to submit to her husband and left Paradise. She is now considered a demon. Subsequently, Eve was created of Adam's rib so, as part of his flesh, she would be submissive to him.
