It seemed to me like the 80 GB was the best, but I just found out that it lacks some software that allows you to play your PS1/PS2 games. Thanks.

Some fools dont know this but:

This system is incredible. By now you either love it or hate it, so I won't go into details. But here's a word of warning on the 80 GB model. The backwards compatibility is very much reduced from the 60 GB model. This is because the 80 GB lacks the hardware that previous models use to play PS1 and PS2 games (Emotion Engine). Now, games from old systems run on emulation software. While this works with some titles, others don't work right at all. Sony promises to release patches with future system updates, but they've also said their priority will be with developing PS3 games and not spending time and energy on PS1 and 2.

So if backwards compatibility is a big selling point for you, get the 60 GB model instead (while they're still around...remember they've been discontinued). Also noteworthy is that hard drives on the 60 GB model are fully upgradable with any HDD drive on the market.

Let me restate this, however. The PlayStation 3 really IS the greatest console of this generation. It's power and capabilities are just downright colossal.

get 60gb and use it real best

Ps3
Blue ray- which the 360 does not have. You have to buy it seperately will cost you around 200 dollars. If you look at the technical stuff, the PS3 is superior to the 360. It comes with a built in blu-ray player, which is nice if you love the super hi-def resolution for movies. Why it's actually important is because the ps3 games come in blu-ray format. 360 games come in DVD format. Blu-ray disks have 25 GB memory (single layered), where as DVDs have only 5 GB memory (single layered). This means that PS3 games not only have better graphics (though it's not really showing right now, I'll talk about that later), they also have more space to put game information. If you read a magazine article vs a novel like Harry Potter, which will give you more information? Which will take longer to read? Blu-ray is like the novel. It allows for a deeper, longer, and better game. Right now this may not seem like a big deal because 360 games are just fine. But in the future, this will matter. The DVD format will cripple the 360 when game developers are trying to put so much into a game, and there isn't enough room. This will leave the PS3 with a much better gaming experience. Remember, this is more of a reason for the future. Blu-ray will last and DVD won't. Now, 360 owners may say "Well, you can buy a HD DVD player for the 360, which is just as good." It actually isn't. It costs $200, and it only plays HD DVD movies. The games are still DVD.

Six axis controller- Again the 360 does not have because the six axis have moion sensing just like the wii. Also it has a built in rechargeble battery and no wires. right now it just sucks because it has no vibration to it. But in a couple months its coming put with the new dual shock 3 six axis for a fact.

Playstation Home- Ever play sims well imagine the people that come into your property can be your friends play games and other stuff. Create your own virtual space and room. Invite friends chat im everything.

No need headset- You can easily use any cell phone bluetooth for online play no need for the 360 headset no plugs just push and play.

Games- Sony is still developing just like how the 360 devolpoe the halo 3 took a while but for the ps3 we have great games but not as much as 360. By 2009 we will have as much games as the 360.

Remote play- If you have a psp and a ps3 just by going to the internet with your psp anywhere in the whole world. You can acess your hardrive movies music photos such like thats what makes sony ps3 so much better

Memory- The ps3 has a 20gb 40gb 60gb and an 80gb 80gb is the best. You can attach extra hardrives as much as you want the 360 cant do that the max is 120gb. wow that sucks.

Wifi- 360 does not have you have to buy it seperately wow how gay. which is like 100 dollars and the signal strength isnt that strong The ps3 alreadycomes with it because its a default sony knows this..

System fan- ps3 has prove it has a quiteier fan than the 360..

Failure rate- ps3 0.1 percent 360 33 percent bad

The 80 gb has the software that lets you play PSX and PS2 games. It doesn't have the hardware (emotion engine) to play PSX and PS2 games.

All PS3 gives you free internet access. You pay your internet provider, but Sony doesn't charge you to use PSN.

All versions are good, but it mainly depends on what you need. If you must have PS2 backward compatibility, then you'll have to go with the 60 and 80 gb. But if all you're doing to do is play PS3 games, then you can go with any versions, depending on how much you want to spend or how much storage space you need. For people that need backward compatibility, the 60 gb is the version to go because of the hardware. The 80 gb is acceptable, but it will play fewer PS2 games than the 60 gb. But the upside is that you get an extra 20 gb and Motorstorm for the same price as the 60 gb.

60 GB is BY FAR THE BEST!
it has full backwards capatibility with all ps2 and ps1 games and its $100 less than the 80 GB and for $100 you can get a 200GB harddrive!
So by a 60GB and by the 200GB harddrive and that will be the same price as the 80 GB (BUT INSTEAD OF 60GB ITS 200GB! AND FULL BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY)

I heard that too but I guess it really depends on what you really want to do with you system. More than likely you won't be playing that many PS1 games on your PS3 so my thought is to get the 80 gb and you can always find a cheap PS2 on ebay.

This question is an often one, so that's my cut & paste answer:
1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.
2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim.
3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.
4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black and white colors. White is on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption). Improved cooling system.
5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played.
