How many Imitrex tablets come in a prescription? Meaning -- when you pick up your pills from the pharmacy, how many do you get? Also, about how much are you paying?

Hi - thanks .... My doctor did give me 3 samples to see if they work ---- fortunately they did. I looked into the prescription information & I didn't know if I was reading it correctly. It seemed that 9 pills would be costing me $83 with insurance, which is ridiculous ...

The price you pay for a 30-supply depends on your insurance. With mine, it's a $10 co-pay.

I have a whole list of migraine meds. If you would like it, feel free to E-mail me. Good luck, hon. :)

Nine pills come in each prescription and they are expensive. The cost depends on your insurance. The full price could cost more than $200. I have a friend who pays $100 with her insurance. I pay significantly less with mine. Make sure that you have gotten samples from the doctor first to insure that they work. In my opinion, they are too costly 'just to see' if they work. You can go to Imitrex.com and they will send you a coupon, sometimes worth $25. Imitrex can only be used twice a week, and two pills can be taken in one day (with the appropriate time between each pill). They come in 50mg or 100mg tablets. If you are taking 50mg and generally need a second dose to stop your migraine, then it is more economical to get the 100mg tablets. Both are the same price and come in packs of nine.

It depends on your prescription and insurance. The number of pills should say on the prescription. I believe Imitrex will be going generic sometime next year.

Follow Mikennos advice. You can contact Pfizer and some other drug companies through your doctor and get free samples. Also, they can put you on a low income budget for lower script costs, I was on one for several years.
