Where do you live? If you live in the US….
Termination of parental rights (which is a different thing than custodial/visitation rights) has to be approved by a judge. Generally speaking, judges are very reluctant to approve it unless it’s for the purpose of adoption or the parent is completely unfit/a danger to the child. There are many reasons for this, but one reason is because judges generally don’t feel that it’s in the best interest of the child (and the child’s best interest is all they are concerned with) to leave that child fatherless/motherless.

Talk to a local attorney. Many will offer a free initial consultation.

You can get legal procedures issued for that, but in the years to come, he may change his mine and want a relationship with his son. But first, find a lawyer who can handle it through the courts for you. Best of luck to you.

first and foremost get a lawyer ..you need that before you can do anything the best thing to do is get a free consultation and see if it is even possible.. if so they will tell you what to do next.. but as far as i know my cousin tried to do that and they told her if he didn't want to sign over his rights he didn't have to if it was proven by DNA that it was his daughter too.. he now still has rights she lost in court.. but good luck to you

If he isn't around, then it isn't an issue.
If he only shows up to make drama, then you can go back and specify "supervised visitation".
