Muhammed. I dont understand the problem because Muhammed is the most popular name for a male in the world. So you can name your son that, and thats ok, but a teddy bear, you should be put to death?

It was said in my local paper today, that it was a set up by senior clerics to cause disharmony between them and the west..
I personally have heard enough about that kind of ridiculousness and I am all in favour of booting every person who follows Islam out of all countries not originally occupied by them originally..
Let them all be together as one and not around sane thinking people who are far more evolved..
Blessings.. )O(

Complicated mess. It involves a school secretary that had a grudge against the teacher, parents that didn't know the whole story, Muslim clerics that jumped on this for propaganda purposes, and a whole lot of people that believed only what they were preached to about without thinking, and a religion that justifies violence for certain things, though they claim to be non-violent.
What is truly telling, is the silence the muslims have about this. They apparently agree with the ruling, or they are ashamed to say those people are members of the same religion.

I love how people say stupid things like "the silence that Muslims have on this." Shows they don't even read about the issue before they blabber their mouth.

"Muhammad Abdul Bari, secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, accused the Sudanese authorities of "gross overreaction."

The Federation of Student Islamic Societies, which represents 90,000 Muslim students in Britain and Ireland, called on Sudan's government to free Gibbons, saying she had not meant to cause offense.

"We are deeply concerned that the verdict to jail a schoolteacher due to what's likely to be an innocent mistake is gravely disproportionate," said the group's president, Ali Alhadithi.

You people saying that we should try to understand, because its there "faith"/religious law, are in a word, idiots. The Punishment does not fit the crime, plural (if there were a crime to be punished) It really irks me that there are people even on this forum, who could support such a barbaric, and backward notion. This is the 21st Century, what they are doing is Racist, and Wrong, Don't you think a warning would have sufficed? In short "They should all stfu and get a life" and anyone that says otherwise are themselves, No better than those doing the persecuting.

I agree with the first post. The name Muhammed is the same name as the Great Prophet and founder of Islam. It's one thing to name sons after him, it's something else entirely, if not insulting, to name a teddy bear, a toy, after him. It would be the same thing as naming a stuffed animal Jesus, loads of Christians would get offended. Now, I think they're too far with kill them thing, but I can understand why they would be upset.

It does seem crazy, I know... But they probably think that she was not taking Islam seriously, and mocking the religion.
People would turn heads if a teacher named a teddy bear Jesus (at least in my town)
However, the punishments she has faced/will face, in my opinion, is not equal to the 'crime'. But then again, it's another country, we can't do anything.
We should all hope/pray things work out for her.

I can kind of understand. I mean, Jesus was a common name before Christ was born, and still sort of is. But people would get mad if somebody named a teddy bear that. However, Muhammed is much much more common and she probably didn't intend any kind of irreverence. Those people are being immature.

People living in the west cannot imagine how Muslims love and respect their prophet Muhammad (May peace be upon him). Their salvation lies in following his foot steps and he will
stand on the day of judgment to seek mercy for them.

It shows what kind of teachers England is producing. A teacher who does not know or does not want to follow, the law of the land.

Upto 1950 or so, blaspheming Jesus Christ was a crime punishable under the British Law. Does it require extra ordinary genius to understand that being 50 years behind the
west, Sudanese are well within their right to keep that law as it was.

The world is full of problems. Inflation, environment, global warming,un- equitable distribution of wealth, the disturbing effect of interest on world economies and declining terms of trade for developing nations...... etc. Is it not better to collectively think for a solution of these problems facing the humanity rather than creating new problems by offending the sensivities of others.

Is there no man of wisdom in the west?

The courts imposed a 15 day sentence on her and the only alternative punishment offered was 40 lashes. At NO time was there any talk of her being killed.

Get you facts straight.
