A man awakens at midnight.
He turns on a light and gets a drink.
He returns to bed.
He awakens again at 8:00 AM.
He looks out a window and sees
a dead body on the ground.

He never woke up it was all a dream. In his dream he perhaps saw his body dead on the ground.
Also, why didn't he turn the light back off?

I bet the light that he turned on is something that killed the dead body. Like it was an emergency light or something.

Its a weird uncertain answer, it's kid of a wierd riddle, but if I had to answer I would say someone was killed by his house and as you said; he is so distraught that he
commits suicide. But if you wanna get all technical you could say that he saw himself before it happened. Dun dun dun..

He is a vampire, he accidently 'drunk' his wife/gf/partner & killed them so then kills himself by walking/looking into sunlight to commit suicide!
