Jesus was most likely just one of the many messiah hopefuls who lived during the Roman oppression, but the only one who had his small band of disciples create a new religion after he died by trying to fit aspects of Tanakh to his life. Why isn't this theory more widely accepted since it is plausible. His followers could have moved the rock thereby creating a new myth to replace the old one.

Or perhaps, like some, he was merely a man who read the torah, then died--perhaps by crucifixion (as many others did)--who 80+ years later was given the title of a god and the disciples who followed that god. I mean, if he really did exist and worked miracles and was even a great teacher....there would be some sort of writings written about him/by him prior to 80+years following his death (when writings about him first surfaced).

EDIT: a response to everyone who says Jesus was the only one who did blah, blah, blah......not so....see the link!!

Well, try to get one of those hopefuls to save you. Not going to happen. Sorry dude. But, you have hope. Theres still Jesus. There's only one way to God, that is through Jesus.

And I do believe that there were guards placed at the tomb, because of the governments fear that if He really wasn't divine, that the followers would do just what you said. Do you really think that a couple of women (who came to the tomb) could roll a boulder away? Come on, now. (And excuse me, didn't they seal that tomb too?)

If Jesus had not been divine, I seriously doubt that his followers would have paid with their very lives to propogate a lie after He was dead.

You do know that what you believe will not change the way it is. People cut off one side of a picture all the time after a marriage is over, or a boyfriend/girlfriend is no longer. But the fact remains, that at that point in history, that person was a part of their life. Cut or no cut, believe or not, it won't change the facts. Jesus is the only Salvation.

About the 80 years later stuff... and why did they crucify Him? I do believe that was pretty current with His being alive. LOL! Don't you think they kept records back then? Come on people, think for yourselves.

Well the Bible does acknowledge that their were others who claimed to be the Messiah. However the reason that millions believe in Jesus of Nazareth is that he fulfilled literally hundreds of Messianic prophecies - most of which he had no control over, such as the Roman soldiers casting lots over his garments, being born in Bethlehem Ephrathah, fleeing to Egypt as an small child, and so on. These prophecies contained in the Hebrew scriptures were fulfilled in this one unique and singular man and are not the work of fiction.

Theories are a dime a dozen but facts - they are more precious than gold.

,Impossible! The bible was made long after Jesus died! Jesus was the greatest teacher, healer and medium that ever was. Couldn't the rock have moved on it's own because Jesus was doing telekinesis?

Jesus never once claimed to be the messiah, unlike others during the time period. He claimed to be the son of God and his followers called him the messiah.

Do you think you know all things because you have mans wisdom. Do you not know there is true wisdom. God's wisdom. The bible also says we are sinners and born sinners. So as a sinner who does nothing to please God nor wishes too. You think you are wiser than God. God has chosen His elect before the creation of the earth. Not from there deeds or anything they have done, but because of His grace and Mercy. Those who are not chosen will not believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God and will go to hell. Those who are chosen will believe in God and nothing will take them out of God's hand. We all deserve eternity in hell for our sins against God, but out of His grace and love and mercy has He chosen some to forgive, not by what they have done but out of His good pleasure.
Those who are His sheep hear His voice and flock to it. Those who aren't, think the gospel is rubbish.

Yes, He was one of many. The key difference is, after the others were killed, their followers dispersed. After Jesus was killed, his key followers stayed together, and all but one of them later faced his own personal martyrdom (martyr = witness, originally). Something motivated them to continue in faith, which the others lacked. Christians believe that "something" was the Resurrection of Jesus.

Judging by the mostly negative reception given to Jesus by the Sanhedrin, and the overly gruesome and painful death they inflicted on Him, I don't think anyone would've felt motivated to claim messiah status.

Unlike other "prophets" Christ was resurrected. Period. That is the truth. Along with the fact that he was born of divinity didn't hurt any either. As far as his reading of the Old Testament, He didn't need the education of it. He knew the word before he was born.

No

He is also the only one to fulfill 300 prophesies including a resurection from the dead.
