Because they have drills and drills hit nerves and nerves cause pain. But here is some good news on this front. Some dentists knowing this now put people to sleep and do the work while the person is in dreamland. They wake up and the teeth are fixed.

I had 6 teeth removed and all I felt was the first needle as the dentist numbs your gums first.I never felt pain while having teeth removed.I could'nt believe it was done so fast.

Because of needles.
And when we remove you're teeth, we can't completely numb it because of it having a nerve inside of it which will hurt.

Same for fillings sometimes.
