If you gave out your name, bank account number, and routing number, can the person use this for identify theft or stealing money from your account?

Can they use it for anything bad?

Yes. The only people you should give that info to are your employer for DD, another financial institution for drafts, and the federal government for tax refund (although I'd rather them cut me a check).

You should NEVER EVER give out your account number. If this person knows what they are doing, they can take all your money out of your account. Go to your bank first thing Monday morning and talk with them on how to prevent this from happening. Chances are you will have to close the account and reopen another one!

The bank routing and account number are need for direct deposit. You accountant doesn't know your password for you account so can't check your balance. So if you want direct deposit of your refund check, then yes the bank information is needed.

That's a big YES.....It's easy to create checks with a laser jet printer....Armed with your bank transit and checking account #'s they could print checks and run them against your checking account. If you've given this info out to a collection agency, they can attempt to do multiple debits against your bank account...and there's nothing to stop them from taking everything unless you have a written agreement for what is to be taken out.

If you've given these numbers out to someone you don't trust (especially like a bill collection agent) you might want to cancel your checking account and have it re-issued under a new account number.

identity- NO
Money- YES, absolutely they could easily make payments to vendors using that information. I would recommend. Contacting that bank and changing your checking account number not just your debit card but the entire account number.

Your damn right they can. You might as well just withdraw the money and give it to them. Call your bank right now if your worried. With that info they can get on any PC and make up their own checks. Or buy online.

that you be a good guess :)

why the hell would you be giving anyone that information???
The only people you would give that to is an employer who needs to do direct deposit, or if you linked a bank account to Paypal or something.

Get your money out of the account, NOW otherwise.
