According to the bible, anything you allow yourself to listen to, read, or watch influences you in some form. Whether you know it or not. Because Harry Potter represents something evil (according to the bible) it isn't acceptable to watch, listen to or read. According to Christians (who think this way) & the Bible, it doesn't matter if it's fiction. It's evil and shouldn't be seen/read/watched, etc.
However, I don't believe this. I have read all the books and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I've seen all the movies that's been created thus far.

Haha, I've heard that too. I'm Christian, and trust me, that isn't true about all Christians. I think there's just a few fundamentalists who are over-speculating.
There are two key ideas that some Christians criticize in the Harry Potter series. First of all, the books teach occultism (witchcraft) to our children, which is against Biblical teachings. Personally, I think that's a pretty stupid argument. Don't we have a right to express our ideas and creativity through writing? Seriously, I think we have a right to explore our own minds and imagination. Ironically, this really *IS* teaching our children occultism. Wica is rising in popularity, and furthermore, wiccans call themselves 'witches.' Do fantasy books encourage Wica? I don't know, but I think that's definitely an arguable debate. This rise in popularity is even evident here on R&S. There's plenty of wiccans here, and I'm seeing plenty of questions that pose an interest in the religion.
The second thing that some Christians criticize about Harry Potter is that the author, J.K. Rowling, said that she intended one of the characters, Dumbledore, to be gay. These Christians say that J.K. Rowling is therefore a bad role-model, so she can't be trusted. Well, anyone who makes that argument is just outright prejudice against gays. Acting on homosexual feelings is a sin, but that doesn't mean you should hate gays. Jesus taught a consistency of love for one another, and this doesn't match that consistency. In my opinion, gays are just born that way, and if you're worried that your kids will become gay, then you should be a responsible parent and teach your children what you believe to be right from wrong.

Its because the subject of the books is witchcraft and the Bible is very specific about staying away from witchcraft. Harry Potter books make witchcraft look appealing and harmless and Christians think that is a dangerous way of thinking.

there is no longer something incorrect with those books. Your buddy improve into basically overreacting. for my area i'm no longer that involved in those books like some human beings yet there is not any "Going against god." in them. they are basically fantasy books that's all. in case you pronounced that for Harry Potter you may ought to declare that for each fiction e book.

It is because of fear, yes fear of what we Pagans/ Witches can do and how we can manipulate energy, they have tried to eliminate us for 2,000 years but we are still here...
For the unintelligent brain-washed, spoon-fed on scripture types, the only reason Witches get a bad name is because of certain text's which were changed from the original to what is now by a certain nut-case of a King...
I suggest you do some real research on the book you hold so dear and enlighten yourselves, but I know that will never happen as the brain-washing is too deeply rooted..
The hierarchy of certain Churches know that their grip on the masses is waning rapidly as more and more people are being drawn back to the old ways, so books and movies like Harry Potter are a threat to their lifestyles and their religion..
Blessed Be... )O(

This is why...
Deuteronomy 18:10-12
There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto YHWH: and because of these abominations YHWH thy Elohim doth drive them out from before thee.
Everything in this passage that we are told not to do... is in Harry Potter stuff.

They aren't.
Look at the demographics - Christians are the ones who made Harry Potter a best seller. You just heard some noise from a handful of people and thought that it represented the entire population. Seriously, who do you think bought those millions of copies of Harry Potter? Atheists? Muslims? No, Christians.

The prescence of witchcraft seals the deal for many.
In truth, there are many good lessons to be learned that far outweigh the so called evils.
Loyalty to friends and family
doing what's right, even at one's own expense
Courage
Telling the truth, even though others may not like it
Among many others...........
Also, it brings the joy of reading to a video game world- a miracle in and of itself.
