it wouldn't matter to me the size or the cost... it would be the thought even if it was a tiny tiny diamond

Ok, well let me ask you this. When she is out by her self, and she has this ring on her hand, do you think that she will go to the jewelers and ask them if it is real or not.
I know that the thought is there, but the females do want a real diamond. Not past.
Get her what you can afford, it isnt the karots, it is the thought. That counts. IF she loves you, she will not care what kind of diamond she has. Dont forget they do came in allot of different colors. Not just clear. Even thou it is the most common. The pink, blue and the yellow diamonds are real good as well.
Good Luck.

Well, if your intended picked out the ring, and you bought her what she wanted, and she didn't pick something smaller than she wanted worrying about cost, then wouldn't you be free to pursue a great deal on it, thus making both of you happy?
Is there some reason, once she makes her choice, that you have to actually tell her what you spent? I think what I've been noticing lately is that with diamond engagement rings they have become joint investment purchases, or something, rather than a token of someone's intentions to marry. I am 100% for a woman selecting her ring (since she has to wear it forever), but in my opinion it's a gift from her partner, so she shouldn't be part of setting the time/place when she gets it, or be involved in the actual purchase of it.
So, let her pick, and then go make your deal!

I would say Karots. If you can find a good quality ring for a fraction of the cost but it's still twice as good than those department stores... then you are in the graces of the goddess to whom you gave that ring.
good luck with your lady friend

Some women care about the quality of the diamond. In that case, it might be better to have less karats and more quality. Other women care about the size - so in that case it would be better to have a bigger ring with lesser quality. Either way, a good rule of thumb is to spend about 2 months salary on a ring. Check out www.theknot.com. There might be some info there for you.
Good luck!

Usually the more karots the more expensive. I have heard some girls say they wanted the biggest ring of all their friends. So in general size does matter.

When I first became engaged to my first husband. he bought my ring on his own. I told him that it would mean more if he picked it out for me. I've never been into a lot of diamonds, so he picked an engagement ring that had a small diamond in it with an interlocking band. It was absolutely beautiful. I never saw another one like it. I am engaged to a wonderful man & he gave me the wedding ring set that belonged to his late mother. The engagement ring consists of seven diamonds, & the band is plain, but it's beautiful & was a beautiful thought on my fiance's behalf.

I want a moissanite engagement ring... much higher brilliance, clarity, and fire than a diamond, without utilizing slave labor for mining purposes and high inflation. Also, much less expensive. A diamond that costs $2000-3000 would only be about $800-900 for a moissanite. It is such a beautiful stone. check it out.

It's the thought that counts on that, and if she's any kind of real woman at all, and not one of these fake women out there now, she won't care if it even has a diamond on it! But we do like to show things off sometimes, so I would have to say Karats. We like attention.

Carats & cost doesn't matter to me. What matters is QUALITY.
Clearity & cut is what makes this difference. I don't want a diamond that is big & has visible imperfections.
Tone down the diamond size & get a great quality...it's worth more.
Personally I'm partical to emeralds not diamonds :)

For me the answer is carats. I wanted the guy I care about to get a good deal. So I did the shopping. And did not stop til I made sure his money was VERY well spent. Lets face it, once it is on your hand, no one knows the cost . the Great Bling speaks.
